Are you ready for the Beijing Games?.
The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China is merely six months away.
Beijing, China was selected as hosts to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. The vote followed in line with the recommendation of the IOC Evaluation Commission that ‘’Beijing Games would leave a unique legacy to China and to sports. The Commission is confident that Beijing could organize excellent Games.’’
Having narrowly lost its bid to host the 2000 Summer games in Beijing, China excelled at the Olympics held in Sydney with 28
Gold medals and a total of 59 medals, coming in third behind traditional powerhouses Russia and the USA. So it’s probably fitting that the country hosts this one.
The torch relay for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing will span 130 days and more than 85,000 miles. Dubbed as the ‘’Journey of Harmony,’’ it marks the longest distance the Olympic torch will travel EVER.
The relay begins March 25 in Olympia, Greece, then heads to Athens before being quickly flown to Beijing. The torch will be taken to new heights, LITERALLY, when it is carried to Mount Everest. The only North American stop on the torch relay will be April 9 in San Francisco.
The Beijing National Stadium, otherwise known as the ‘’Bird’s Nest,’’ will seat as many as 100,000 spectators to kick off the Olympic Games on August 8. Lights were put into operation this past week at the stadium.
The national aquatics center, known as the ‘’Water Cube,’’ is a 17,000-seat arena that will be used for…

Novak Djokovic becomes first Serbian in tennis history to win a Grand Slam title by winning 2008 Australian Open.
Unseeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France was the crowd favorite to make history in the Finals of the 2008 Australian Open. Certainly, it is a rare occurrence for an unseeded tennis player to win a Grand Slam title.
However, Novak Djokovic, the 3rd seed from Serbia, disappointed the tennis fans at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia, as he defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
The first set of the 2008 Australian Open Men’s Singles Finals went to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, but Novak Djokovic gathered himself and won the next 2 sets. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga made a match of it in the fourth set, but costly double faults during the tie-break gave game, set and match to Novak Djokovic, who made his own tennis history bybeing the first Serbian tennis player to win a Grand Slam title, and to win an Australian Open.

Maria Sharapova (5) of Russia defeated Ana Ivanovic (4) of Serbia in the finals of the 2008 Australian Open Women’s Singles in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 clinching her third Grand Slam title. Maria Sharapova went through the entire 2008 Australian Open without dropping a set to an opponent, and was impressive all throughout, booking wins against World No. 1 Justine Henin of Belgium and No. 3 seed Jelena Kankovic.
Maria Sharapova’s 2008 Australian Open title redeems her loss in the 2007 Australian Open finals last year when Sharapova was dominated by Serena Williams 6-1, 6-2.
The only Grand Slam title that eludes Maria Sharapova is the French Open, which she hopes to win this year some time between mid-May and early June when the 2008 French Open kicks off.
2008 Australian Open Betting: Tsonga vs. Djokovic in Men’s Finals
Saturday, January 26th, 2008
It’s the 2008 Australian Open Finals! Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Novak Djokovic. France vs. Serbia. Unseeded vs. No. 3. The Slayer of World No. 2 vs. The Executioner of World No. 1.
The pictures on this blog may look like it’s a boxing match, but trust us, this is tennis. This is 2008 Australian Open Men’s Singles, and this is The Finals!
The unseeded Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga of France will try to write something memorable for tennis history as he hopes to become one of the rare unseeded tennis players who wins a Tennis Grand-Slam Tournament should he win the finals of the 2008 Australian Open Men’s Singles. It’s something that definitely hasn’t happened in a long time, and Tsonga could be in for a lot of headlines and, of course, history. But first things first. Tsonga has to get past No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia, and that is not an easy task.
