2008 Breeders’ Cup Early Favorites

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

If you’re fond of horse racing, feel free to read this.

The 2008 Breeders’ Cup world championships are coming and it will feature top class thoroughbred racing that will decide the year-end championship honors slated on October 24 and 25 at the Santa Anita Park.

The main event, if you will, is of course, the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic where the very best thoroughbreds will compete with some of the favorites to win it this year. Who are the favorites? Thoroughbreds like Big Brown, Colonel John, Pyro, Well Armed and Curlin should be some of ‘em and here’s why.

Big Brown has a record of2008 Breeders’ Cup 7-6-0-0 and is arguably the top contender to win the 2008 Breeders’ Cup. Trained by Richard E. Dutrow, last year’s Kentucky Derby champion was the second winner in history to break from post position 20. This colt is also the first horse since 1915 to win the Derby after only three lifetime starts.

Next we have Colonel John, the winner of the $1 million Travers Stakes Grade 1 by a nose at Saratoga last August 23. The contender worked four furlongs last September 14 on Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface in 48 4/5 for trainer Eoin Harty. The colt is listed in the top three favorites headed for the $5 million 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic at the Oak Tree in the Santa Anita meet.

A Kentucky homebred son of Tiznow-Sweet Damsel, by Turkoman, Colonel John won both the Sham Stakes Grade III and Santa Anita Derby Grade 1 on Santa Anita’s main track earlier this year. However, those races were run on a hybrid synthetic track consisting of both Pro-Ride and Cushion Track materials.

Well Armed could create some noise as well. Owner…

2008 NFL Week 4 Sports Betting Tips

Friday, September 26th, 2008

The first month of NFL football will conclude this Sunday and we have some great tips for you as always.

You read it, the 2008-09 NFL football season will be a month old. And after three weeks into the season, we found out that the Bills are for real, the Texans are still bad and Ronnie Brown can singlehandedly beat the living daylights out of the Patriots.

So what’s in store for us football fans when the NFL season resumes this Sunday? Let’s start with the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets because you just know Brett Favre will be itching to get back to the win column after losing his second straight game last Monday night.

Terrell OwensSure, Favre’s availability against the Arizona Cardinals is still unclear after he rolled on his ankle during the third quarter of the Jets’ 48-29 loss to San Diego last Monday but since the guy holds the NFL record of starting in 256 straight regular season games, I have a feeling he’ll still show up and play. After all, he asked for all of this when he decided to unretire right?

If Favre plays, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to pick the New York Jets over the Cardinals by a touchdown.

Favre’s former mates will be in action as well when the Green Bay Packers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what should be another tough NFC match-up for the cheeseheads. After suffering a big loss to the Cowboys last Sunday night, traveling to Tampa to play the Bucs just might be too unforgiving for the young Aaron Rodgers. Besides, the Buccaneers have one of the better defenses in the league and I don’t think Green Bay’s A-Rod can come up with magic over Jon Gruden’s D.

Pick the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win by…

NASCAR Chase for the Cup Favorites

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

It’s that time of the year when NASCAR tries to bring in more racing fans towards the sport.

And since NASCAR’s target market are mostly fans who love speed, the 2008 NASCAR Chase for the Cup is exactly what the docotr ordered.

So who are the favorites? Well, there’s Jimmie Johnson for one. Johnson comes into the 2008 Chase for the Cup as the two-time defending Sprint Cup champion. Johnson has been relatively quiet in 2008. He has just four wins in the series this season. However, he comes into the Chase with lots of momentum as the winner of the last two races.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.Jimmie Johnson and his no.48 Hendrick Motorsports team know how to get the job done during the Chase. They have been in this situation before and prevailed.

Next we have Dale Earnhardt Jr. Junior is one of four drivers with one win during the regular season. He comes into the Chase 70 points behind Kyle Busch and since he’s now one of the more popular figures in the sport, getting his fan base going for the Chase is as easy as, well… you get the drift.

Clint Bowyer, who had to battle his way into the Chase, also has to be a favorite. He was 12th in points coming into Richmond and held off David Ragan for the final Chase spot.

Among other notables include Denny Hamlin, who had a frustrating Chase in 2007.

Bad luck and bad finishes caused him to wind up a distant 12th in the final standings, last among the 2007 Chasers. Jeff Burton, who started 2008 with 14 consecutive finishes of 13th or better, is also another…

Cristiano Ronaldo returns

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Yes, the biggest superstar in football today will finally be back.

And in case you haven’t heard, the 2008 UEFA Champions League is already underway and we already have quite a few teams looking quite strong already for this year’s campaign.

One of which is of course, Manchester United. After missing the services of Cristiano Ronaldo because of injuries to start the football year, the most expensive footballer today could be back for Man-U once they take on Villarreal in a UEFA Champions League Group E fixture on Wednesday.

Cristiano RonaldoRonaldo has been making quite a few headlines the last few months with the rumored move from Manchester United to Real Madrid. Now that he’s officially a Red Devil again, he’s hoping Man-U fans will forgive him for his transgression.

For what it’s worth, Ronaldo remains confident Man-U fans will forgive him, (depends on how he helps the team in the 2008 English Premier League season of course…) although Real Madrid will definitely not, that’s for sure.

‘’When I put on the shirt, I give it my all,’’ Cristiano Ronaldo said. ‘’I’m already in the history of the club. When I play the fans will love me again.’’

Cocky ain’t he? And he uttered those words despite the rumors that aside from the possible move to Real Madrid, he’s also rumored to move to Manchester City after that club claimed they would pay Ronaldo a whopping US$270 million.

Of course, Ronaldo denied there is any chance of…

Will Ferrari lineup behind Massa?

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

They could, because at this point of the season, Massa is showing Ferrari why his team should do just that.

Much to everybody’s surprise, Felipe Massa has overtaken his more popular Ferrari teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, in the race for the drivers championship this 2008 F1 season with only six more races to go.

After playing second fiddle to Michael Schumacher and then Kimi, Felipe Massa has come to his own this year with 64 championship points to Kimi’s 57. And although Lewis Hamilton is still in first place, leading the two Ferrari drivers with 70, Massa definitely has a better shot of winning this year’s title than Kimi, despite the fact that Kimi still is THE defending champ.

Felipe MassaThat’s probably why the Ferrari team should start lining up behind Massa now or they could see their run for the drivers title end up with nothing.

We all saw that last season when McLaren - Mercedes let Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso settle for themselves who’s going to take home the title. It backfired when Kimi came out of nowhere to steal the drivers championship away from the two competing McLaren stars.

It’s ironic that Kimi Raikkonen finds himself in the same position and it’ll be up to him if he wants to cooperate with Massa or just go all out and try to compete with his teammate for the title.

Ferrari legend Niki Lauda believes that the 2008 championship is set to be a down-to-the-wire battle between Ferrari and McLaren. Although Massa only has a slight edge in total points over teammate Raikkonen, the Austrian, who won the drivers’ championship with the Scuderia in 1975 and 1977, has more trust in Massa than Raikkonen going to the 13th race of…
