For the second time this season, all eyes will be on Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers.

Yep, Brett Favre will be playing the Green Bay Packers this Sunday as Week 8 of the 2009 NFL football season continues. This time though, it’ll be a little different as he returns to Lambeau Field wearing enemy colors.

That’s right, Brett Favre will be back at historic Lambeau Field when he leads his Minnesota Vikings against the Green Bay Packers. This will be his first trip back at Lambeau since the Packers ended the Brett Favre saga in Green Bay when they sent him packing to New York city a year ago.

His return should be an interesting one since we all know how much fans at Lambeau loved Brett Favre when the guy was still playing for the Green Bay Packers. Will they still cheer for Favre who’ll be wearing the colors of their bitter rivals from Minnesota?

They should. After all, Brett Favre did spent 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, tearing it up at Lambeau Field when he still was building on what is now a Hall of Fame career. Packer fans OWE IT TO THEMSELVES to cheer for this guy, even though he’s now playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

Oh yeah, we’re picking the Vikings too because judging by the way Favre blew the Packers away in Minnesota, we expect Favre to have another huge game and give Lambeau Field one last historic performance. Vikes by three.

We also have a couple more huge games this week, including this huge battle in the NFC between the struggling Seattle Seahawks and the surging Dallas Cowboys.

DeMarcus Ware, who has recently signed a six-year contract extension that includes $40 million in guaranteed money, will have a chance to prove his worth against a sputtering Seahawks offense that only managed to put up three points the last time they were on the field.

Ware, 27, has four sacks in 2009, all in the last two games for the Dallas Cowboys. He led the league with 20 sacks last year. He was only the sixth NFL player to reach the 20-sack plateau since sacks became an official stat in 1982. He has 57.5 career sacks and has been a Pro Bowler three times. He also shares the NFL record with Simon Fletcher for consecutive games with a sack (10), and he holds three of the top-five sack seasons in franchise history.

Of course, the next Super Bowl is still a LOOONG way from here.

But with the big wave of NFL free agency behind us, let’s have a look at a few of the teams who made a splash and what it means to their current Super Bowl future odds.

First we have the Washington Redskins, who dove into the deep-end of the free agency pool. Always known as big, but not smart, spenders, the Redskins signed one of the highest profile FAs available when they threw $100 million at DT Albert Haynesworth, formerly of the Tennessee Titans.

Owner Daniel Snyder was quoted as saying, ‘’I know $100 million is a lot of money, but we had to land a franchise quarterback who can lead this team to a Super Bowl.'’ At that point an assistant leaned over and told him Albert Haynesworth was a defensive tackle. Snyder’s head slumped and he walked away from the press conference muttering incoherently.

The ‘Skins also re-signed CB DeAngelo Hall and added offensive lineman Derrick Dockery from the Buffalo Bills.

Snyder has spent a ton over the years, but has nothing to show for it. Even with the additions, they are listed at 40-1 to win the big game next year. Online sportsbook SportsBetting.com reported some betting action on the Skins after the Haynesworth announcement, both on their future odds to win the Super Bowl and on their odds to win the NFC Championship (16-1), but it was still moderate.

Since there’s a scarcity of good wide receivers available in the free agency pool, every team will probably gun for T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

And since T.J. Houshmandzadeh is really the only big impact wideout available from free agency, teams probably won’t mind spending a few bucks more than they usually do in putting the quite lengthy Houshmandzadeh name on their own jersey for the coming 2009-10 NFL football season. Good thing Ben Roethlisberger isn’t available, YET.

So where will T.J. Houshmandzadeh go? Will he stay in Cincinnati or will he finally move on after all those losing seasons he had playing for the state of Ohio? (Yes, he probably won’t even bother signing up for the Cleveland Browns…)

As of this writing, Houshmandzadeh already resigned himself to another season with the Cincinnati Bengals. Normally, a player with a definite decision would mean that it won’t be anything indefinite but since we live in an era where Brett Favre can retire, play again, retire, play again and (you guessed it…) retire again, we should now know better.

But for the meantime, we’ll buy in with what Houshmandzadeh has already said. And if he does stay away from the Queen City, which of the league’s other 31 teams will he play for next? Let’s start with probably the most intriguing one, the New York Giants. Now that the Giants are on the verge of letting Plaxico Burress go, signing Houshmandzadeh next is the logical way to go. The last postseason proved the Giants couldn’t advance without a big name wide receiver and while the Eagles took advantage of Burress’ absence when they took out the Giants in the divisional round, New York having a guy like Houshmandzadeh can probably...

It’s crunch time in the NFL with only two weeks remaining in the season.

That’s exactly what they can do with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will try to partially salvage their season of failed expectations by at least delaying the Colts’ seventh straight entry into the postseason. However, the 10-4 Colts won seven in a row to put themselves at the top of the AFC wild-card standings. That’s why you should stay away from Jacksonville for this one.

For the first time this season, we’ll have NFL football action on a Saturday when the Baltimore Ravens visit the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas. It's time for another weekend of football, and just like any other weekend, this Sunday's schedule promises to be a good one.

Week 14 of the 2008-09 NFL football season begins slowly on a Thursday night when the league features two teams struggling at this point of the year. The Chargers, losers of their last three games, will play hosts to the Raiders, losers of the last three years, when the NFL kicks-off the brand new week exclusively for people who subscribed to the NFL Network.

The San Diego Chargers haven’t had a losing season in five years. It’s been just as long since their last loss to the Oakland Raiders. The Chargers, possibly the most disappointing team of the season, want to make sure neither of those streaks end Thursday night, as they host the Raiders, looking to avoid putting their slim playoff hopes at risk this weekend.

That’s why the San Diego Chargers can’t afford to lose to the Raiders on Thursday. We’re picking them by seven.

With a one-game lead in the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings need every victory they can get to remain atop the division. Having a pair of Pro Bowl defensive linemen on the field certainly can’t hurt their cause. After a Minnesota judge issued a temporary restraining order this week blocking their league suspensions, Kevin and Pat Williams will likely be available for the Vikings this Sunday against the winless Detroit Lions. The Vikings have won 12 of their past 13 meetings with the Lions overall and if you’re betting on this game, avoid the 0-12 Lions at all cost.

Time to cash in on some games in the NFL.

Week 10 of the 2008-09 NFL football season started early this week because starting this week, football comes early every Thursday night until the second to the last week of the season.

And in case you missed the first paragraph, YES, Week 10 started on a Thursday night with the Denver Broncos visiting the Cleveland Browns. These two teams have been struggling lately and matching them up together last Thursday was just what both of these two teams needed.

Next, the St. Louis Rams will try to regain some momentum after giving their new coach a couple of wins only to lose the next two games when they face the New York Jets. Having won two of three games under coach Jim Haslett, another victory would have given the St. Louis Rams a 3-5 record last Sunday at the season’s halfway point and moved them to within one game of the Arizona Cardinals. Instead, they have fallen three games behind Arizona after the Cardinals handed them a 34-13 loss back in Week 9. They have the Jets this Sunday, a team that won two straight to put them in the middle of a three-way tie for first in the AFC East. And in case you didn’t get that, yes, this is a bad time for a struggling Rams team to face the high-flying Jets.

The first month of NFL football will conclude this Sunday and we have some great tips for you as always.

You read it, the 2008-09 NFL football season will be a month old. And after three weeks into the season, we found out that the Bills are for real, the Texans are still bad and Ronnie Brown can singlehandedly beat the living daylights out of the Patriots.

So what’s in store for us football fans when the NFL season resumes this Sunday? Let’s start with the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets because you just know Brett Favre will be itching to get back to the win column after losing his second straight game last Monday night.

Sure, Favre’s availability against the Arizona Cardinals is still unclear after he rolled on his ankle during the third quarter of the Jets’ 48-29 loss to San Diego last Monday but since the guy holds the NFL record of starting in 256 straight regular season games, I have a feeling he’ll still show up and play. After all, he asked for all of this when he decided to unretire right?

If Favre plays, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to pick the New York Jets over the Cardinals by a touchdown.

Favre’s former mates will be in action as well when the Green Bay Packers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what should be another tough NFC match-up for the cheeseheads. After suffering a big loss to the Cowboys last Sunday night, traveling to Tampa to play the Bucs just might be too unforgiving for the young Aaron Rodgers. Besides, the Buccaneers have one of the better defenses in the league and I don’t think Green Bay’s A-Rod can come up with magic over Jon Gruden’s D.

The Giants win the first game of the season!

How about that huh? KNown to be slow starters, the Giants won with Eli Manning scoring the first touchdown of the 2008-09 NFL football season. It doesn't get any better than that.

The question now is, can they return to the big dance and win Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa?

With the New York Giants covering the spread by five points and Eli Manning starting their campaign strong, they're certainly on the right track.

Week 1 continues on Sunday with 13 games. Let’s start with the St. Louis Rams visiting the Philadelphia Eagles. After a tumultuous season, the Rams come in the brand new season with a new sense of hope. They just signed Steven Jackson to a new contract and with new offensive coordinator Al Saunders taking over, they’re hoping to bring back the offense once dubbed as the greatest show on turf.

However, the Philadelphia Eagles have Donovan McNabb healthy again and I don’t see these Rams beating the Eagles in Philly. Our pick? The Eagles by ten.

The Cincinnati Bengals, led by a focused Chad Johnson, will visit the Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals still have one of the high-scoring offensive schemes in the league but with Rudi Johnson now gone, I’m expecting this offense to slow down a little bit.
