Can Brett Favre finally beat Dallas?

2-9 all-time and 0-3 in the playoffs.

That’s what Brett Favre is trying to improve on when his Minnesota Vikings play hosts to the Dallas Cowboys in their big NFC divisional match-up at the 2010 NFL playoffs.

As of this writing, the Minnesota Vikings are three-point favorites to beat the Dallas Cowboys and advance to the NFC championship game. But if I was a betting man, I’d think twice before I bet on the Vikes because of the fact that Favre hasn’t beaten the Cowboys in the playoffs, and this Vikings team lost two of their last three games coming in.

Still, if there’s a guy who can lead the Vikings to a playoff win over the Cowboys, it’s Brett Favre. At 40 years old, nobody thought he’d still be playing at this level and this Sunday, the Vikings need him now more than ever or it’s an early summer for ‘em.

The Dallas Cowboys on the other hand are one of the hottest teams in the league after finally posting their first winning record in December for quite a while. They have won three games in a row, scoring 75 points overall while only giving up 14.

Of course, the main reason for their turnaround has been the steady play of quarterback Tony Romo and the elevated play of their defense. In last week’s 34-14 playoff win over the Eagles, Romo completed 23 of 35 attempts for 244 yards and two TDs. Romo didn’t give up any interceptions.

Adding to the success the Cowboys have been having recently is the play of second year running back Felix Jones. He had an outstanding game last week against the Eagles with 148 yards rushing on 16 carries. For the season, Jones has a 5.9 yards per carry average.

The race for postseason slots are starting to heat up.

Yep, we are now starting to see which of the teams this 2009 NFL football season will be making a run at the Super Bowl come February.

After eight weeks, we have the Indianapolis Colts tearing it up in the AFC and the New Orleans Saints having a dream season for the Big Easy. Will these two teams meet each other in Super Bowl XLIV?

But before you contemplate on that, we still have some huge games for you this week as the season continues with Week 9. Sure, Brett Favre and those Minnesota Vikings have the week off, but will that stop you from watching more of the NFL this Sunday? Probably not.

One game you should watch out for is this game between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. Miami is coming off a huge win over the New York Jets last Sunday as they look to take Sanchez and the rest of his Jets out of that no.2 spot in the AFC East. A win over Tom Brady at Foxboro could give ‘em just that but of course, that’s easier said than done.

The New England Patriots are starting to look like the Patriots team that broke all kinds of records two years ago. They are currently lording over the AFC East coming to their divisional rivalry game with the Dolphins this Sunday.

I don’t like Miami’s chances this weekend. Tom Brady is throwing footballs like rockets again and I don’t see Miami’s wild cat offense getting the best of Bill Belichick either. Patriots by seven.

NFL Week 8 Betting Tips

For the second time this season, all eyes will be on Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers.

Yep, Brett Favre will be playing the Green Bay Packers this Sunday as Week 8 of the 2009 NFL football season continues. This time though, it’ll be a little different as he returns to Lambeau Field wearing enemy colors.

That’s right, Brett Favre will be back at historic Lambeau Field when he leads his Minnesota Vikings against the Green Bay Packers. This will be his first trip back at Lambeau since the Packers ended the Brett Favre saga in Green Bay when they sent him packing to New York city a year ago.

His return should be an interesting one since we all know how much fans at Lambeau loved Brett Favre when the guy was still playing for the Green Bay Packers. Will they still cheer for Favre who’ll be wearing the colors of their bitter rivals from Minnesota?

They should. After all, Brett Favre did spent 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, tearing it up at Lambeau Field when he still was building on what is now a Hall of Fame career. Packer fans OWE IT TO THEMSELVES to cheer for this guy, even though he’s now playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

Oh yeah, we’re picking the Vikings too because judging by the way Favre blew the Packers away in Minnesota, we expect Favre to have another huge game and give Lambeau Field one last historic performance. Vikes by three.

We also have a couple more huge games this week, including this huge battle in the NFC between the struggling Seattle Seahawks and the surging Dallas Cowboys.

DeMarcus Ware, who has recently signed a six-year contract extension that includes $40 million in guaranteed money, will have a chance to prove his worth against a sputtering Seahawks offense that only managed to put up three points the last time they were on the field.

Ware, 27, has four sacks in 2009, all in the last two games for the Dallas Cowboys. He led the league with 20 sacks last year. He was only the sixth NFL player to reach the 20-sack plateau since sacks became an official stat in 1982. He has 57.5 career sacks and has been a Pro Bowler three times. He also shares the NFL record with Simon Fletcher for consecutive games with a sack (10), and he holds three of the top-five sack seasons in franchise history.

2009 NFL Football Week 6 Betting Tips

The NFL is about to spin your betting tendencies like crazy this weekend.

Why? Well, in case you didn’t know, the sixth week of the NFL calendar means the trading deadline is coming and since we are heading to Week 6 of the 2009 NFL football season, expect some struggling teams to make a move or two, each hoping that the moves they make this week will be the difference between winning and losing.

One team in the middle of all these trade rumors? The Buffalo Bills. After five weeks into the season, the Terrell Owens experiment hasn’t been paying off. The Cowboys’ leading receiver last season hasn’t done shit for the Bills this year. After five games, he only has 12 receptions, 202 yards, and one measly touchdown.

As a result, the Buffalo Bills have not fared well this season. They are currently dead last in the AFC East with a disappointing 1-4 record. Good thing the division is still a wide open free for all with Tom Brady and the Patriots still looking for their groove. Unfortunately for them, they have the division leaders this Sunday, the New York Jets.

After the New York Jets lost last Monday night’s divisional game with the Miami Dolphins, those guys probably can’t wait to pound somebody to a pulp all week. The Jets lost on Monday Night Football when the Dolphins beat ‘em using their trademark Wildcat offense on a direct snap to running back Ronnie Brown, giving the Dolphins the go-ahead touchdown with six seconds left en route to the 31-27 win.

And knowing Jets head coach Rex Ryan who makes a living on defense, you can bet your ass that he didn’t like the way Miami’s Wildcat kept on working against them. ”I used to see all those gimmicks when I was coaching back in college,” Ryan said after the game. ”I’ve been a part of some bad performances before on defense, just not this bad.”

The Dallas Cowboys already struggling

Uh oh, the 'Boys are in trouble already.

Ah yes, the Dallas Cowboys are once again in a heap of trouble just like last year, the year before that and the year before that year. Hell, they’ve been in trouble since the end of 1996 for crying out loud. The sad part is, they’re already in trouble this early when the 2009 NFL football season hasn’t even started yet. Yikes.

In case you didn’t know, the Dallas Cowboys lost Roy Williams to a left shoulder injury just a few days ago, putting him out for the rest of the preseason.

You see, Roy Williams was suppose to be the guy who’ll replace T.O. as Tony Romo’s new target. With this setback, the Cowboys don’t even know if Roy can make it back in time for the start of the regular season and jump start this Romo – Williams tandem the Cowboys are trying to establish.

Yeah sure, we’ll probably see Tony Romo throw footballs to Jason Witten’s direction anyway since the Cowboys frontline can’t protect Romo long enough to let their quarterback find holes ten yards away from the line of scrimmage. But with Williams out, that’s one less option for Romo to throw the football to. And since there’s a scarcity of good receivers in Dallas these days, that’s not something you want to have with only a few more days left before the regular season begins.

To make matters worse for the Cowboys is the fact that Williams’ injury is just one of the problems they have to resolve before the season starts. You see, their new no.1 receiver is having problems with a teammate lately, Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick to be specific. And in case you’re wondering, Scandrick was the moron who injured Williams’ left shoulder in a goal line collision.

Terrell Owens to play for Buffalo Bills

The city of Buffalo found a way to make people talk about their team.

In case you didn’t know, Terrell Owens will be playing for the Buffalo Bills once the 2009 NFL football season gets here. It was only a matter of time before the Cowboys released Owens after he just kept on going at it with Cowboys team leaders, Tony Romo and Jason Witten, Buffalo gives T.O. a new start and for now, he’s quite happy about it.

‘’I'm leaving America’s team (for) North America’s team,'’ Terrell Owens said at a news conference. ‘’This may not be the most ideal place for a lot of people, but I’m the guy. I beat to my own beat sometimes, my own thinking, my own intuition.'’

Contrary to what he said, the Dallas Cowboys left him, not the other way around. And I’m not surprised to hear T.O. say ‘’me'’ again only days after signing with the team.

While his prior stints in Dallas, Philadelphia and San Francisco all ended badly, Owens is a major upgrade for a Buffalo Bills team seeking more offensive firepower, statistically speaking. Buffalo was already rebuffed earlier this offseason in attempts to sign wide receiver Laveranues Coles and running backs Fred Taylor and Kevin Jones. With the singing of T.O., the Bills will now have two deep threats with Lee Evans coming off one of his best seasons in his career. The question is, can the Bills co-exist with Owens in Buffalo.

Owens is among the NFL’s career leaders in catches, yards and touchdowns. Despite that. the Cowboys became the third team to get rid of him because of his divisiveness. He left after eight seasons with the 49ers and two with the Eagles.

Despite that, there were still teams willing to sign him after he was released by Dallas, the Raiders and the Redskins, among other teams, were initially interested in him. In the end, the controversial wideout...

Who will sign T.J. Houshmandzadeh?

Since there’s a scarcity of good wide receivers available in the free agency pool, every team will probably gun for T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

And since T.J. Houshmandzadeh is really the only big impact wideout available from free agency, teams probably won’t mind spending a few bucks more than they usually do in putting the quite lengthy Houshmandzadeh name on their own jersey for the coming 2009-10 NFL football season. Good thing Ben Roethlisberger isn’t available, YET.

So where will T.J. Houshmandzadeh go? Will he stay in Cincinnati or will he finally move on after all those losing seasons he had playing for the state of Ohio? (Yes, he probably won’t even bother signing up for the Cleveland Browns…)

As of this writing, Houshmandzadeh already resigned himself to another season with the Cincinnati Bengals. Normally, a player with a definite decision would mean that it won’t be anything indefinite but since we live in an era where Brett Favre can retire, play again, retire, play again and (you guessed it…) retire again, we should now know better.

But for the meantime, we’ll buy in with what Houshmandzadeh has already said. And if he does stay away from the Queen City, which of the league’s other 31 teams will he play for next? Let’s start with probably the most intriguing one, the New York Giants. Now that the Giants are on the verge of letting Plaxico Burress go, signing Houshmandzadeh next is the logical way to go. The last postseason proved the Giants couldn’t advance without a big name wide receiver and while the Eagles took advantage of Burress’ absence when they took out the Giants in the divisional round, New York having a guy like Houshmandzadeh can probably...

It’s crunch time in the NFL with only two weeks remaining in the season.

Yes, it’s already Week 16 of the 2008-09 NFL football season and nothing, absolutely NOTHING has been decided as far as the final playoff picture is concerned. That’s exactly what they can do with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will try to partially salvage their season of failed expectations by at least delaying the Colts’ seventh straight entry into the postseason. However, the 10-4 Colts won seven in a row to put themselves at the top of the AFC wild-card standings. That’s why you should stay away from Jacksonville for this one.

It's time for another weekend of football, and just like any other weekend, this Sunday's schedule promises to be a good one.

Week 14 of the 2008-09 NFL football season begins slowly on a Thursday night when the league features two teams struggling at this point of the year. The Chargers, losers of their last three games, will play hosts to the Raiders, losers of the last three years, when the NFL kicks-off the brand new week exclusively for people who subscribed to the NFL Network.

The San Diego Chargers haven’t had a losing season in five years. It’s been just as long since their last loss to the Oakland Raiders. The Chargers, possibly the most disappointing team of the season, want to make sure neither of those streaks end Thursday night, as they host the Raiders, looking to avoid putting their slim playoff hopes at risk this weekend.

That’s why the San Diego Chargers can’t afford to lose to the Raiders on Thursday. We’re picking them by seven.

With a one-game lead in the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings need every victory they can get to remain atop the division. Having a pair of Pro Bowl defensive linemen on the field certainly can’t hurt their cause. After a Minnesota judge issued a temporary restraining order this week blocking their league suspensions, Kevin and Pat Williams will likely be available for the Vikings this Sunday against the winless Detroit Lions. It all started against the Redskins. At least that's what Cowboys wideout Terrell Owens claims.

After all the hype that has surrounded the Cowboys before the start of the 2008-09 NFL football season, America’s team has lost two of their last three games and are sitting at the very bottom of the NFC East.

That probably has something to do with the absence of franchise quarterback Tony Romo, who sat out the team’s last three games with a broken pinkie. Veteran Brad Johnson tried to fill in but only managed to give the Cowboys a single win in the three games that he started behind center.

Was Romo’s injury the reason why the Dallas Cowboys have been losing lately? From a casual fan’s standpoint, that’s probably stating the obvious. But as far as T.O. is concerned, the Cowboys’ troubles didn’t start with a broken pinkie on a hotshot quarterback.

And while Terrell Owens probably still continues to complain about the limited touches he’s been having on the field, the controversial wideout said that their team’s troubles didn’t start with Romo’s injury but as early as the first month of the season, when the Washington Redskins handed them their very first loss. They went on to lose three of their next four games afterwards.

‘’I think the loss to Washington made a lot of people raise a lot of eyebrows,'’ Terrell Owens said. ‘’I think those two games alone kind of let everybody in this locker room know you got to have sort of a self check like, ‘OK, we’re probably not as good as we think we are, or probably not as good as hyped.”’
