Duke V Florida State Betting Tips
Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009
It was only a matter of time before we did another Duke game.
You read it, the Florida State Seminoles travel to Durham, North Carolina to play its final ACC road game of the season as they slug it out against No.7 Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Which of these two teams can gain an edge before the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament gets here?
The Florida State Seminoles can finish second place in the ACC standings with victories in its final two conference games of the 2008-09 season. Florida State is led by ACC Player of the Year candidate Toney Douglas and ACC Coach of the Year nominee Leonard Hamilton. The Seminoles were picked to finished 10th by the attending media at ACC Operation Basketball in October and enter Tuesday’s game in a tie for third place in the league standings.
The Seminoles have won six of their last eight games (all conference match-ups) and enters Tuesday’s game with the Duke Blue Devils carrying an overall record of 22-7, that’s the most regular season wins by Florida State since also winning 22 games prior to post-season play during the 1992-93 season.
The Seminoles also own a record of 9-5 in ACC play, that’s their most conference wins since winning nine during the 2005-06 season and tied for the third most ACC wins in school history. The Seminoles arrive in Durham looking to win their fifth ACC game and their 11th game away from Tallahassee this season. For Duke, after losing four times over a six-game span, head coach Mike Krzyzewski knew he had to do something to shake up his Blue Devils.
Since moving Jon Scheyer to point guard and putting freshman Elliot Williams in the starting lineup, Krzyzewski has seen his Blue Devils run off four consecutive wins to move back into second place behind their rivals, North Carolina Tar Heels, in the ACC standings. The Devils moved to 10-4 in the league with their tough 72-65 victory at Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels are a game in front at…
Villanova – Notre Dame Betting Tips
Monday, March 2nd, 2009
Villanova hopes to bounce back against Notre Dame.
Yes, the 10th-ranked Villanova Wildcats will try to bounce back from their ugliest offensive performance of the season Monday night when they visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, that is if they want to stay focused until the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament gets here.
The Villanova Wildcats (23-6, 11-5) have won nine of ten games from January 24 to February 25 to give itself a striking shot of cracking the Big East’s top four, a feat that would give it a double bye into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament at Madison Square Garden.
But the Wildcats’ chances of trading places with Marquette or Pittsburgh among the league’s elite took a blow Saturday. The Wildcats shot just 33.3 percent, 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from 3-point range, in a 56-54 home loss to Georgetown, which had lost nine of its previous 11.
The Wildcats can still catch Pittsburgh if they win their last two games and the Panthers drop their last two, but the more realistic chance looks to be tracking down Marquette. A loss by the Golden Eagles plus two Villanova victories will leave the fourth seed to a complicated tiebreaker.
On the other hand, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, aside from having another chance in three days to knock off a league heavyweight, will have the opportunity to ascend to one of the final four spots in the Big East tournament with wins in their final three contests.
The fifth through eight place teams will have a bye in the first round of the conference tournament, making it very important for the Irish to at least…
Memphis Tigers visit UAB Blazers
Thursday, February 26th, 2009
People say the Blazers are the only real challengers to Memphis in the C-USA. On Thursday, they will have the chance to prove it.
Yes people, the countdown to the 2009 March Madness bracket tournament continues with another huge game on Thursday night between the fourth best team in the nation, Memphis, against the only team who has the Tigers’ number, UAB.
You read it, the Memphis Tigers are
going up against the UAB Blazers again with a chance to further climb up the proverbial ladder before the brackets arrive. Memphis is currently ranked No.4 overall and since they lost to UAB two years ago, they’ve won an astounding 54 league games in a row. They also cruise down Highway 78 on an 18-game overall win streak.
Of course, another loss to the UAB Blazers will halt what has been the Tigers’ march for March. And coming to their big game against Memphis this Thursday night, the Blazers also have, although modest, winning streak of their own, having won six games in a row.
One thing going for UAB on gamenight is the fact that they have simply been phenomenal at Bartow. They are a perfect 12-0 at home this 2008-09 NCAA college basketball season and you can bet your ass that their home fans will be pumped for this one.
If you’re betting on Memphis, then you should know that the Tigers won their first meeting, 81-68, at the FedEx Forum. Although UAB has won nine of their last ten games since, the Tigers should still have the upper hand, that is if they can keep their…
Teams to bet on for March Madness 09
Monday, February 23rd, 2009
Since we are less than a month away from March, it’s only fitting to find out which teams are ruling college hoops right now.
Why? Well, in case you didn’t know, the month of March only means one thing to college basketball, the March Madness bracket tournament and since the 2008-09 NCAA college basketball season is nearing it’s own version of the playoffs, it’s about time for you to have an idea on which team to bet on.
And as far as the No.1 spot is concerned, the Connecticut Huskies still own the top spot. The Huskies beat the Louisville Cardinals and the Michigan Wolverines last week to earn the title ‘’top dawg.’’ These guys certainly look good heading towards March.
The Oklahoma Sooners and the North Carolina Tar Heels hold second and third place respectively. The Sooners got three first-place votes while the Tar Heels were No.1 on two ballots.
The run for No.1 started when Pittsburgh finished its two-week stint on top. Wake Forest and Duke each were up there for a week before Connecticut moved in. The changes in the Top 25 started following a week that saw 14 teams, six in the top 10, lose at least one game.
Pittsburgh jumped from sixth to No.4, while Louisville remained fifth after rebounding from a home the loss to Connecticut with a road win over St. John’s.
The Duke Blue Devils, which lost by 27 points to Clemson then beat Miami in overtime, dropped from fourth to sixth. Wake Forest, which lost by 27 points to Miami before snapping a two-game losing streak with a win over Boston College, held seventh place.
The Memphis Tigers, who beat Gonzaga in a matchup of ranked teams, moved from 14th to eighth, while Michigan State moved from 13th to No.9. Marquette, which fell to South Florida for its first Big East loss, dropped two spots to 10th.
The UCLA Bruins were at No.11, followed by…
UNC just fine without Tyler Hansbrough
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
Yes, they’re still winning even without the reigning national player of the year.
One week into the 2008-09 NCAA college basketball season and the North Carolina Tar Heels are still reigning supreme. The Heels passed their first big test without Tyler Hansbrough as their front line stepped up big with Tyler Zeller scoring a team-high 18 points while fellow freshman Ed Davis came up with a double-double Saturday to help North Carolina beat Pennsylvania 86-71.
This is definitely an impressive season-opening performance that indicates that the North Carolina Tar Heels can weather the uncertainty of playing without the national player of the year.
Deon Thompson added 17 points for the Tar Heels, who led by double figures much of the day yet had some trouble putting together a game-sealing run. North Carolina was also without fellow senior Marcus Ginyard, injuries that forced North Carolina to thrust Zeller and Davis into the lineup.
Taking the second spot after week 1 are the Connecticut Huskies, led by Hasheem Thabeet, the 7-foot-3 junior from Tanzania, who scored 23 points and had a career-high 17 rebounds to lead No.2 Connecticut to a season-opening 81-55 win Friday over Western Carolina.
Thabeet, who towers 7 inches over any defender, also blocked five shots. He was 7-of-11 from the field, with most of his attempts from inside five feet. After two years as the Huskies’ defensive stopper, Thabeet says he ready to step it up on offense as well.
Following at third are the Louisville Cardinals, at fourth spot is UCLA and rounding up the fifth spot is Pittsburgh. Levance Fields and DeJuan Blair had 15 and 17 points respectively as they breezed past Fairleigh Dickinson 86-63 Friday night.
Michigan State is at sixth, the Texas Longhorns are at seventh spot, while the Duke Blue Devils, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and…
