Mayweather destined to fight Pacquiao?
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
Provided Pacquiao can rid his name of drug allegations.
Talks of a Manny Pacquiao – Floyd Mayweather fight has begun with the two sides discussing a mega-fight between the Pacman and the reigning pound for pound champion.
Yes, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still the pound for pound champion in boxing since nobody has beaten him yet. As far as Manny Pacquiao is concerned, he’s just a guy who hits hard, nothing more, nothing less.
According to some rumors, Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions who handles Floyd Mayweather Jr., flew to Las Vegas to discuss the fight with Bob Arum of Top Rank. No further details were given.
Manny Pacquiao is coming off the latest in what has been a string of fluke victories for the biggest joke in boxing since Hashim Rahman, with a victory over WBO Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas.
The win secured Pacquiao his seventh title in as many weight classes, a boxing record, although there are rumors that claim Pacquiao is taking performance enhancing drugs to gain that edge over his opponent inside the ring.
As for the reigning pound for pound champ Floyd Mayweather, he is coming off a dominating victory recently, beating Juan Manuel Marquez in a September 19th unanimous decision.
Mayweather was and still is considered by many to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world after victories over Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton in late 2007, before choosing to retire after Hatton fight. Mayweather’s match with Marquez was his first since returning from retirement.
With the two sides meeting, the heart of the…
Miguel Cotto wants to beat Pacquiao
Saturday, November 14th, 2009
He’s determined, let’s just put it that way.
The Manny Pacquiao – Miguel Cotto fight is on this Saturday and as far as the reigning WBO welterweight champion is concerned, he’s ready to knock the living daylights out of Pacquiao.
How focused is he to beat Manny Pacquiao? He already got to Las Vegas earlier than usual to ”familiarize himself with the atmosphere” there. I mean, how crazy is that? Now I don’t know how familiarizing yourself with the atmosphere can help him inside the ring come Saturday but I am rooting for this dude.
”If he thinks he is going to win seven titles in seven weight divisions now, he has picked the wrong moment, the wrong fighter and the wrong opponent,” Miguel Cotto said. ”If he thinks he is going to win the seventh title against Miguel Cotto, he is very wrong.”
Yep, Cotto will be out to shock the world and finally put an end to Pacquiao’s reign of terror. Freddie Roach says he has money on Pacquiao knocking Cotto out in the first round but as far as Cotto is concerned, he is simply isn’t concerned about what Roach says at this point.
”Forget about Freddie Roach,” Cotto said. ”The only thing Freddie can do is train Manny. He can’t go over the ropes and into the ring to fight against Miguel Cotto. He can only train Manny the best he can.”
”He may say and think Manny will knock me out but at the end of the day, it is just Manny and Miguel Cotto in the ring.”
”No matter what kind of things Freddie Roach says before the fight, I have a very strong mind. The psyche game? I’m not going to follow that game.”
”What they say and what they do does not…”
Who can stop Floyd Mayweather Jr?
Thursday, September 24th, 2009
He’s still No.1 and he proved just that over the weekend when he dominated Juan Manuel Marquez for the full 12-round fight.
It was a display of greatness as Floyd Mayweather Jr., despite the two-year absence from the ring, showed just how good he still is by simply dominating Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last Saturday.
In the Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Juan Manuel Marquez fight last weekend, Mayweather proved why he is still considered by many as the best, pound for pound fighter in the world as he extended his undefeated record to an astounding 40-0. Wow.
And while Manny Pacquiao and his fans have unofficially claimed that title for themselves, (go figure…) Mayweather accomplished something last Saturday that Pacquiao was unable to in two attempts, earn a convincing win over Marquez after winning the bout via unanimous decision.
You see, Juan Manuel Marquez is Pacquiao’s kryptonite. For some reason, Marquez has been that one guy who can take everything Pacquiao throws. Marquez showed just that in his first meeting with Pacquiao when he recovered from the early knock down to ALMOST win it. The fight ended with a controversial draw although I personally thought Marquez should’ve won it.
Mayweather, on the other hand, didn’t give Marquez any opportunity to steal the fight last Saturday. We saw the classic Money Mayweather we’ve seen in the past, dancing around the ring to confuse and frustrate his opponent. And oh yeah, Marquez was frustrated alright because all that piss he drank to prepare for this fight turned out to be for nothing.
And since Mayweather is once again at the top of the food chain, everybody will start gunning for him.
Heck, it already started the moment…
Mayweather – Marquez is ON Saturday
Friday, September 18th, 2009
Who’s your pick?
In case you didn’t know, the highly anticipated return of the pound for pound best fighter in the world is set on September 19 when we’ll have the Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Juan Manuel Marquez fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Yep, the king’s return to boxing is now official as Floyd Mayweather Jr. returns to the ring with an undefeated streak no one has been close to stopping.
Of course, Juan Manuel Marquez is no pushover and the fiery Mexican is looking to put an abrupt end to Marquez’ comeback.
Dubbed as ”Number One / Numero Uno,” both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez are looking to win on the 19th of September to get a shot at Manny Pacquiao. Apparently, both feel that this third world joke has gone on long enough and it is about time to finally put an end to it all.
The problem is, Miguel Cotto could accomplish the deed even before any of these guys can get the opportunity to have a go at it.
The world witnessed the announcement of Floyd ”Money” Mayweather Jr. when he told everybody that he will return to the sport of boxing, putting his unblemished record on the line when he faces the dangerous five-time world champion Juan Manuel ”Dinamita” Marquez.
Marquez is 36 years old. He has won 50 fights, 37 by KO, with 4 defeats and a draw. However, as good as he’s been, there is concern that the two fights with Manny Pacquiao, and taxing scraps with Barrera, Casamayor and Diaz, have diminished the proud Mexican physically.
Probably so, but we’ve been hearing about…
Floyd Mayweather Jr. suffers Injury
Monday, June 15th, 2009
Bad time to suffer an injury huh?
For all ya’ll looking forward to the scheduled Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Juan Manuel Marquez fight on July 18, I guess you would have to wait a little longer.
It turns out that the bout is now postponed after Floyd Mayweather Jr. suffered a rib injury in training last week, forcing him to delay his highly anticipated return to boxing. You see, he was happy with the way he ended his career until Manny Pacquiao decided to desecrate the sport with his antics. He decided to return to boxing in hopes of finally putting an end to it and reestablish himself as the true no.1 pound for pound fighter in the world.
In order for him to do that, he needs to beat Juan Manuel Marquez first. The winner will end up with a fight against Manny Pacquiao. Unfortunately, with the rib injury to
Mayweather, that opportunity would first have to wait and understandably, the pound for pound king ain’t happy.
‘’I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed,’’ Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) said in a statement. ‘’I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring.’’
According to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, Mayweather tried to work through the injury but just couldn’t because of the pain.
‘’It was very painful,’’ Schaefer said. ‘’I don’t know the extent of it is, but he went to go see a doctor and he is in tremendous pain, so we have no choice but to postpone the fight. He obviously knows how dangerous of an opponent Marquez is and he wants to make sure he is in the best shape possible.’’
‘’We will find out more in the next few days as he goes and sees the doctor again. He definitely wants to fight and he wants to fight Marquez. He knows it’s a big fight. But at the same time, he knows he has to be in the best shape.’’
‘’He said, ‘Let’s see what dates are available and…”’
