Can Kobe lead the Lakers to the NBA Title?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Kobe Bryant will look to win his first NBA champonship without Shaq.

The Los Angeles Lakers return to the NBA Finals after winning Game 5 of the 2008 NBA Western Conference Finals, beating the defending champions Spurs 100-92, to clinch their best-of-seven series, 4-1.

Kobe Bryant wants that NBA title BAD and with the way he led the Los Angeles Lakers past the Spurs in Game 5, his hunger for the title this year was on display. Hell, he IS the NBA Most Valuable Player of the Year and highlighting his season with a championship ring is just the perfect ending to a ‘’dream season.’’

Kobe BryantThe San Antonio Spurs just had no answers for Kobe as No.24 came up with one of the best performances of the 2008 NBA playoffs. Kobe Bryant came up with a game-high 39 points in dethroning the NBA champions. Pau Gasol chimed in with 12 points and 19 rebounds while Lamar Odom added 13.

Who knew the Lakers will end their series with the San Antonio Spurs in five games? This is a testament how BAD the Lakers, specifically Kobe Bryant, wants to win the title in the 2008 NBA Finals.

‘’I think it is a tremendous accomplishment,’’ Kobe Bryant said. ‘’I think the West is extremely tough. We’re all extremely excited and proud about it. Now, it’s time to go on and see if we can’t finish it off.’’

‘’My heart’s still pumping, that adrenaline is still running from the game,’’ Lamar Odom said after Game 5. ‘’Maybe when I sit down and have something to eat, I’ll realize what just happened.’’

”We came out here, played our game, and won. It’s satisfying, but…”

It’s a wild wild West in the 2008 NBA Playoffs

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Yes, the wild wild West is where it’s at in the postseason.

With the regular season finally over, the seedings in the West were finally finalized for the 2008 NBA playoffs. And in case you’ve been living under a rock, Tinseltown is back on top after the Lakers won the Western Conference title for the first time since the 2000 playoffs.

That means, the Los Angeles Lakers will enter the playoffs as the no.1 seed. They will face the no.8 seed Denver Nuggets in a best-of-seven, first round series to kick-off their playoff campaign and with Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony killing some of the momentum his team gained after he was charged with DUI, the Lakers are definitely looking quite good to have their way in this playoff match-up.

Chris PaulOf course, Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson will still be focused as he prepares himself for a match-up with Lakers star Kobe Bryant. But then again, let’s not kid ourselves with the idea that Denver will actually shock L.A. in the first round.

No.2 seed New Orleans Hornets will face the no.7 seed Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks had a statement game against New Orleans for the final game of the regular season, winning 111-98 when J-Kidd had a massive triple-double of 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Of course, the New Orleans Hornets are hoping for a different tune especially after winning Game 1. But I STILL won’t be surprised to see the Dallas Mavericks knock off the no.2 seed in the first round.

No.3 seed San Antonio Spurs renew their playoff rivalry with no.6 seed Phoenix Suns once they meet again in the first round. The last time they played a series in the playoffs, Suns star Steve Nash was on the receiving end of a shoulder block from Spurs vet Robert Horry. That ended with the Spurs moving on and the Suns taking an abrupt exit from the playoffs.

This time though, the Phoenix Suns will have…

Pau Gasol debuts for the LA Lakers, steals spotlight from Kobe Bryant.

Pau Gasol was a winner in his LA Lakers debut, without even much help from Kobe Bryant, who had a season-low 6 points. Pau Gasol stole the spotlight with a double-double performance of 24 points and 12 rebounds, boosting the Los Angeles Lakers win over the New Jersey Nets 105-90 on Tuesday night.

Derek Fisher matched a season high with 28 points to lead the LA Lakers, who improved to 3-1 on their nine-game road trip. Kobe Bryant shot 3-of-13 from the floor but had eight assists in his lowest-scoring effort since an eight-point game against the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 5, 2007. He seemed to work well with Pau Gasol, who was 10-of-15 and showed he may help the LA Lakers get by just fine until Andrew Bynum returns from his knee injury.
