Ramirez will be joined by Red Sox teammates David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis. However, as great as it would be seeing ‘Big Papi’ in action, Ortiz will be forced to miss the All-Star game with an injured wrist.

Red Sox rivals, the New York Yankees, also have their own stars selected to represent the American League. Yankees team captain Derek Jeter leads the Yankee All-Stars.

Joining Jeter in the American League All-Star team is slugger Alex Rodriguez and probably the best closer in baseball, Mariano Rivera.

For over 100 years, Manny Ramirezthe Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have been chief rivals, compounded by their geographic proximity. Since the inception of the wild card team and an added Division Series, the rivals have squared off in the American League championship series three times, with the Yankees winning twice in 1999 and 2003 before 2004 saw Boston celebrating.

In addition to that, both teams have met each other in the last regular season series of a season to decide the title in numerous occasions. Boston won one in 1904 before the Yankees bounced back in 1949. The most recent one was back in 2005 when the Yankees won again to capture the pennant.

Can Boston Red Sox dominate the American League in MLB Baseball again?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

The American League is still Boston’s turf.

The 2008 MLB baseball season is here as the Red Sox begin their quest to become champions of baseball for the second straight year.

Like last season, everybody’s still so fixated on the American League compared to the National League. While NBA fans favor the Western conference more than the East, baseball has this one.

Manny RamirezDefending champions Boston Red Sox lead the pack from the American League East while the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels lead the Central and West divisions respectively.

Boston Red Sox are still coming out strong after winning the MLB World Series last season. They have a 43-28 win-loss record, with a decent 7-3 showing in their last 10 games.

In the Central division, the Chicago White Sox, with a 38-30 win-loss mark, lead. These guys seem to have the motivation this season to win it all. Take their last game against the Colorado Rockies for instance, Chicago beat Colorado 5-4 after rallying in the seventh inning for three runs, giving the South Siders their ninth straight win at U.S. Cellular Field.

In the West Coast, the 41-28 record of the Los Angeles Angels gave them the top spot in this division. With Chone Figgins back at the top of the Angels’ rotation, the Angels are looking like solid contenders for the World Series title.

The Angels’ offense seemed to be missing…

Colorado Rockies Cinderella-Like Story Ended Earlier Than Expected

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

The Colorado Rockies could not hold off the blistering pace set by the Boston Red Sox from the start, The Rockies went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and 1-for-12 with runners on base as the Red Sox hindered the Rockies’ offense throughout the series. But Sunday night, it was all history.

After a month of playing near-flawless baseball — getting all the breaks to overcome the Padres for the National League Wild Card before sweeping the Phillies and the Diamondbacks in the National League playoffs — the Rockies wound up on the other end of the good baseball and good fortune.

“When you talk about us playing well, winning 21 out of 22, we had a lot of confidence,” Jamey Carroll said. “You can see that in that team. They had tons of confidence. The way they were playing, just the way they would run the bases, you could see it.

Colorado Rockies Are Going To The World Series For The First Time!
It’s been a Cinderella story for the Colorado Rockies. Two weeks ago, the San Diego Padres were one strike away from eliminating them from the wild-card race when the Padres went up against the Milwaukee Brewers. But then, Milwaukee’s Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a tying, two-out, two-strike triple off Padres pitcher Trevor Hoffman that gave the Colorado Rockies a fighting chance.

The next day, The Colorado Rockies went heads up with the San Diego Padres, and won one. The night after that, the Rockies beat the Padres in a 13-inning, National League wild-card tie-breaker match. And ever since then, the Colorado Rockies have been undefeated, going through 20 wins in 21 games.

The latest achievement of the Colorado Rockies was a 4-0 sweep in the National League Championship Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, which give them the National League pennant and a trip to the 2007 World Series. It’ll be the first trip of the Colorado Rockies to the World Series Championships since the franchise’s inaugural season in Major League Baseball back in 1993.
