Who will save Cutler from the Eagles?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 at 12:02 am

Jay Cutler likes playing in the dark.

That’s what they are saying anyway. They say the Chicago Bears quarterback is a nocturnal creature and prefers nighttime like a freaking vampire. However, if that was true, then how come he has been on the losing end of the three night games the Bears played this 2009 NFL football season?

Believe it or not, Jay Cutler loves evening games, For some reason, he even told his coaches that he prefers night games and late afternoon games as compared to noon starts. Unfortunately, their night games haven’t equated to wins yet.

asante_samuelIn the three night games the Chicago Bears played, all three were losses. Jay Cutler, who loves these night games so much, threw 65 percent of his interceptions during the night, making us think that this guy is probably more comfortable after dark with booze than handling footballs.

That is certainly bad news for the Chicago Bears since they are scheduled to be in yet another evening game for Sunday Night Football. To make matters worse, Jay Cutler, who throws majority of his interceptions at night, will face one of the best secondary in the league today, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Unlike Donovan McNabb who can put a lot of points on the scoreboard, Jay Cutler has struggled against superior defensive teams. And since the league schedules its top tier teams on primetime, Cutler’s struggles against these teams during the evening is really not THAT surprising.

In his four-year NFL career, Jay Cutler is 4-9 in the 13 night games he played on primetime. Yep, maybe Cutler is just trying too hard on national TV perhaps? The fact that he has thrown an interception for every 20.3 attempts at night compared to his one interception for every 34.6 attempts at daytime proves just that.

And in case you were wondering, those numbers are skewed from his five-INT game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The fact of the matter is, you should stay away from the Jay Cutler and the Bears on Sunday night. The Eagles have one of the best secondary in the league today and the fact that Cutler will once again be away from home certainly doesn’t help Chicago’s chances.

You see, Cutler has struggled away from home, both during the day and during the night. In fact, in the road games that he played in his career at night, Cutler has only won twice. His numbers at night include a miserable 70.5 passer rating, a pathetic .581 completion percentage and six more interceptions than touchdowns.

So tell me, how come he still likes night games?
