Redskins strip Jim Zorn of Play Calling
But isn’t a head coach there for the main purpose to call plays?
That’s the dilemma the Washington Redskins are at this point of the 2009 NFL football season. In case you haven’t been following Washington’s campaign this year, it has been a year of firsts. How come? The Redskins have been giving away all these first wins to teams that haven’t won a game until they get to play the Skins. And quite frankly, it’s becoming pathetic really.
The New York Giants were the first ones to score their first victory of the year after playing the Washington Redskins and since that was the season opener, everybody in Washington wasn’t concerned. But after they gave the Detroit Lions, who were then coming in at 0-19 stretching from last year, their first win of the year, it started getting ridiculous.
Losses to then 0-3 Carolina Panthers and then 0-5 Kansas City Chiefs were just too much for the Redskins organization. So what did they do? They stripped Redskins head coach Jim Zorn of his play calling responsibilities while still keeping him as the team’s coach.
What?!? That’s like getting a race car driver who can’t drive race cars or hiring a bodyguard who can’t guard anybody. But since the Redskins have a quarterback who can’t play quarterback and a running game that was just unable to run in six games, I’m not surprised to see them keep a head coach who got his head coaching responsibilities taken away from him.
I can’t blame the Redskins too for taking away Zorn’s play calling duties. The Redskins haven’t scored more than 17 points in any game this season. On defense, they allow opposing teams to score at least 27 points and gain at least 402 yards. That people, is a recipe for disaster, THAT along with a disastrous 2-4 start.
The only problem I have with the decision is why in the hell are the Washington Redskins keeping Jim Zorn as their head coach if they already took away the guy’s head coaching responsibilities? That just doesn’t make sense to me.
As far as Zorn is concerned, at least he knows what needs to be done.
”I’ve got to be better. And it really irritates me. Truly irritates me,” Zorn said. ”And I’m just not going to rest until I get that taken care of.”
But with the Redskins now not letting him coach plays, how can he still be this team’s head coach? Maybe he’ll get plays across through mental telepathy.
