Ken Griffey Jr goes back to the Seattle MarinersKen Griffey Jr. is heading back to the Seattle Mariners. The 39 year old Left Fielder is believed to have signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners for one year and is estimated to be worth $2 million in base salary, plus incentives.

“He’s coming home. … I can’t begin to tell you how ecstatic we are. He is, too,” Seattle mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said “arguably one of the greatest athletes to ever play in the Seattle area. Ken is extremely excited to be coming back to Seattle,”

The Atlanta Braves was Ken Griffey Jr.’s first choice on however the same old reason why most professional athletes tend to move to Atlanta, with the city of Seattle they do not have the geographical convenience as the other cities with professional ball clubs. However Ken Griffey Jr. still has sentiments left for the Mariners franchise since this was where everything started with his career and Ken Griffey Jr. became an MLB all star with the Seattle Mariners. Ken Griffey Jr. was a former Seattle Mariners superstar that left the franchise in 2000.

“We were informed tonight that Ken Griffey Jr. has decided to return to Seattle,” The Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren said. “We will continue to be open to other possibilities to improve our outfield offense and, at the same time, give our young players an opportunity to show us they can win that job.”

The Atlanta Braves have a training camp that is a 20 minute drive from Ken Griffey Jr.’s home in Orlando, Florida and the Atlanta Braves Stadium is a one hour flight away.

Another clue in the whole confusion as to where Ken Griffey Jr. would be playing in the next MLB Regular season was the statement he gave out almost two years ago as an Atlanta Brave saying that he would like to finish his career as a Seattle Mariner.

Jack Zduriencik General Manager of the Seattle Mariners said that the Seattle Mariners are the beneficiaries of Ken Griffey Jr. deciding to cement his MLB legacy with the Seattle Mariners.

“Oh, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that,” Jack Zduriencik said. “Everyone knows Ken Griffey is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and he’s returning to his roots. That doesn’t happen too often.”

The Seattle Mariners already have a position to be a designated hitter and maybe in left field waiting for Ken Griffey Jr. in the 2009 – 2010 MLB Regular Season. Ken Griffey Jr. is baseball’s fifth all time career home run hitter with 611. With Ken Griffey Jr. getting some motivation back it would be a great time to watch baseball despite all the steroid hoopla that is coming out of the wood works.

“A rejuvenated Ken Griffey coming back to where he started has to be a fabulous motivator for him,” Jack Zduriencik said.
