Arizona to win Super Bowl XLIII?

Nobody saw how good these Cardinals will be this year.

Believe it, once the second worst franchise in sports next only to the Chicago Cubs will play in Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Florida as the Arizona Cardinals punched in their ticket to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on February 1.

The Arizona Cardinals beat the heavy favored Philadelphia Eagles 32-25 last Sunday to win the 2009 NFC championship and earn the right to play for this year’s Super Bowl.

Capitalizing on Larry Fitzgerald’s three first-half touchdown receptions, the Larry FitzgeraldCards’ continued to step on the gas, thanks to Kurt Warner’s eight-yard TD pass to rookie Tim Hightower with 2:53 left.

Donovan McNabb was superb in leading Philadelphia’s second-half rally from 18 points down to a 25-24 lead, but after Hightower’s score, he misfired from midfield four times in the final moments.

37-year-old Kurt Warner, a Super Bowl MVP from almost a decade ago with the St. Louis Rams, engineered a precise, 72-yard drive to win it with his fourth TD pass of the day. He finished the game with the eight-yard pass to Hightower, before hitting Ben Patrick for the 2-point conversion.

The unstoppable Larry Fitzgerald, who had nine receptions for 152 yards, had two big catches on the decisive drive. The All-Pro set a single postseason record with 419 yards receiving, surpassing the great Jerry Rice. And to think that Fitzgerald still has one more game to go, the Super Bowl.

Blown out by the Eagles 48-20 on Thanksgiving, coach Ken Whisenhunt’s team looked completely different in its first title game since 1948 to earn one of two Super Bowl XLIII tickets at stake.

With playoff victories over Atlanta, Carolina and the Eagles (11-7-1), this is the Cardinals’ winningest campaigns yet. They’ve already surpassed their total postseason wins dating back to when the playoffs began in 1933.

Arizona is the first team with nine wins in the regular season to make the Super Bowl since the 1979 Rams lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
