Brett Favre wins game with 32-yard TD
That just proves that Brett Favre’s career is FAR from over.
In what has been one of the more exciting finishes of the still young 2009 NFL football season, Brett Favre stunned the red hot San Francisco 49ers last Sunday in a game that should’ve been settled on the ground.
SHOULD’VE BEEN since this was a game between the two best running backs in the league, that being Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers.
Unfortunately, both backs were not that explosive as football fans had hoped. Adrian Peterson did rush for 85 yards for the Minnesota Vikings but failed to find the endzone. As for 49ers running back Frank Gore, his day ended early in the first quarter with a sprained ankle.
So who was the big story of the day with A.P. neutralized and Gore out? Easy. Brett Favre. Favre came up with a game-high 301 passing yards, completing 24 of his 46 passes, to lead the Vikes to the 27-24 win.
But it wasn’t as simple as it sounds.
With less than two minutes left and the Minnesota Vikings down 24-20, Favre drove down the field, making huge plays after another. And with 12 seconds remaining in the game, Favre found Greg Lewis for a 32-yard touchdown that gave them the lead for good and ended the game with the classic Favre finish.
Amazing.
”The offensive line was fired up. Adrian was fired up, and the receivers were fired up. And Brett fell right in. He was fired up, too, like: ‘We’re going to get this done,”’ Greg Lewis said. ”And that’s the attitude that we took out there on the field.”
”He’s been in many, many, many, many situations like that,” Vikings head coach Brad Childress said, ‘’so it never hurts you to have a veteran like him going down the field.”
