Brett Favre retires from the NFL again
Will this be the final one?
In what has now turned out to be an annual thing in the NFL, Brett Favre retires (again) at the end of the NFL season, this time without the big press conference and tears from a housewife who can’t get enough of soap operas.
In case you forgot, Brett Favre retired last year, in front of a slew of cameras with tears rolling down his cheeks. This was after he did the exact same thing the year before that, the year before that year and probably the year before that year too.
When he postponed retirement again to play for the New York Jets last season, a lot of people were surprised, not because he decided to postpone retirement one more time but because he’ll be playing for the Jets, NOT the Green Bay Packers.
I guess after all the retirement speeches Favre put us through the last few years, I’m no longer surprised to learn that he’s calling it quits again after only a year as the New York Jets quarterback. And yes, I still won’t be surprised if Favre decides to make yet another ‘’comeback’’ and play for the Jets next season, for some other team, or even Green Bay for that matter.
In any case, he’s making it clear that he’s retiring for good. Until he changes his mind again. He’s so sure this time that he even addressed the skepticism about his latest ‘’retirement.’’
‘’I have no reason to wonder why you would be so skeptical,’’ Brett Favre said. ‘’I have family and friends who are like, ‘All right, Brett. Is this the real deal?’ To me, it is. It is. Believe me. It’s been a wonderful career, I couldn’t ask for anything more.’’
‘’It was worth a shot for me to go to New York. I wish I could’ve played better down the stretch. I didn’t. It’s time to leave.’’
‘’Emotionally, I’m OK with it. I really felt like it was time. Obviously, the circumstances last year were a lot different. Physically, if I felt better, we may not be having this conversation, but I think that’s more than anything the writing on the wall.’’
