Betting on the 4th of July Weekend

Friday, July 3rd, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Happy 4th of July people.

Yes, it’s that time of the year again when the proud U – S – of – A celebrate its day of independence. And while some of the more patriotic Americans wave their little flags and light up a firecracker or two on the 4th of July weekend, some will watch two men make a fool of themselves by eating a butt-load of hot dogs while they bet on it as if it was the freakin’ Super Bowl.

Since everybody was so into this entire thing last year, (you have ESPN to blame for that…) Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi will once again try to find out who loves ‘em hot dogs the most in the now 94th Annual Nathan’s Hot dog Eating Contest.

takeru_kobayashiThis eating contest has become a tradition in New York, gaining international exposure and impressive spectator numbers with 30,000 people showing up to watch the entire thing last year. And with the popularity, the sports betting world has taken notice and bettors look forward to having a little fun with it this year and basically every other year as well.

Online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.COM is offering up a number of prop bets and wagering options for the event, with some very cool betting offers. As you might expect, most of the betting focus surrounds the rivalry between the two top contestants (the only two people who have won the competition the past eight years) Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi.

As it stands, Joey Chestnut is listed as the odds-on at -125, Takeru Kobayashi is next in line, listed at -105, and the Field is listed at +1000. SPORTSBETTING.COM is seeing a little over 60 percent of the action right now on the reigning champ Chestnut.

There was a time when Kobayashi, nicknamed ‘’the Tsunami,’’ was actually a force of nature in hot dog eating contests. He won it five years in a row between 2001 and 2006. But for some reason, he started losing, he lost to Chestnut the last couple of years, relinquishing his title to a guy who literally INHALES hot dogs.

Will 2009 be any different for the Japanese?

The Over/Under for the amount of hot dogs the eventual winner will eat is set at 61.5 and the O/U for the margin of victory between the winner and the person in 19th place is set at 43.5.

Do you think the contest will go into overtime, aka a ‘’Dog-Off?’’ If there is and you wager, it will pay out at a whopping +1000 and if it doesn’t, which is the most likely scenario, it will pay out at -2500.

Who will eat 15 hot dogs first? Will it be the favorite Chestnut (-135) or will it be Kobayashi (+105)? Will Chestnut down 30 hot dogs first (-125) or will it by his Japanese counterpart (-105)?

SPORTSBETTING.COM is offering an Independence Day 25 percent cash bonus. Anyone who wagers $50 or more on the winner of the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 on July 4th and everyone who wagers $50 or more on either the side or Total on Saturday’s baseball action, will receive a 25 percent bonus on all deposits made on July 4th.

Make a $50 wager, and grab 25 percent in free cash on your July 4th deposits. It’s that easy to pick up some free cash.

To be eligible for the bonuses, the $50 single wagers need to be made on the ‘’MLB Lines’’ category (side and/or total) and the Coke Zero 400 section, picking who will win the race. That’s it, your account will be credited with the 25 percent deposit bonus on Monday, July 6th.

This offer will expire July 4, midnight. 4X rollover in Sportsbook, 20x rollover in Casino. Bonus funds cannot be used in the Poker room. SPORTSBETTING.COM reserves the right to rescind the offer or change the terms prior to the expiry date.
