Honeymoon between Moss, Pats over?

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

More problems for the Patriots.

It looks like the New England Patriots are having all sorts of problems this 2009 NFL football season. After suffering back to back losses in the last two weekends, the Patriots finally snapped their losing streak last Sunday. However, despite beating the Carolina Panthers 20-10 to get themselves back in the win column, it seems they still have one huge issue they need to address.

Apparently, Randy Moss had the worst performance of his three-year marriage with the Patriots and according to two Panthers corners, the enigmatic Patriots receiver did it on purpose. Yikes.

randy_mossRandy Moss finished with just one catch for 16 yards, one dropped pass, one lost fumble and a fourth quarter false start penalty for the New England Patriots. Moss was so terrible last Sunday that the home crowd at Foxboro started to boo him. Was it because of the fantastic defense shown by the Panthers or did Moss just stopped playing?

In case you didn’t know, Moss was sent home by head coach Bill Belichick when the receiver was late for a team practice in preparation for this contest against Carolina. The Patriots lost two in a row and were in desperate need of a win then and being late for an agitated Belichick is definitely something you don’t want to do. Moss did, Belichick sent him packing and the receiver’s ego was hurt since.

Against the Carolina Panthers, Randy Moss looked like he was more interested in hurting his team’s chances of winning the game than beating Carolina. According to two Panthers; Chris Gamble and Chris Harris, they felt Moss wasn’t going all-out on every play.

”We knew he was going to shut it down,” Chris Gamble said. ”That’s what we wanted him to do. That’s what we did. He’d just give up a lot. Slow down, he’s not going deep, not trying to run a route. You can tell, his body language.”

”I know everyone who plays against him…”

Cardinals, 49ers meet again on Monday

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Redemption.

That’s exactly what the Arizona Cardinals have been having lately this 2009 NFL football season after coming out of the gate stumbling.

And since the Arizona Cardinals started their campaign this year with a loss to the San Francisco 49ers back in Week 1, they will probably make the most out of this second chance they have against the Niners this Monday night in San Francisco.

The last time the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers met, the Niners handed the NFC defending champions a 20-16 loss right in front of their fans at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona to kick off the season.

kurt_warnerHowever, don’t expect the same thing to happen this Monday night. Because unlike the season opener, the Cardinals now have a healthy corps of receivers, they finally got the running game going and the offensive line is finally protecting Kurt Warner.

That’s a good thing too since we all know that Warner is the key in the Cardinals’ success. Warner has become one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league at this point of the season. He turned in a passer rating of more than 120.0 in each of their past four games and Arizona’s two receivers; Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, couldn’t be any happier.

The only other guy to do it is Johnny Unitas and on Monday Night Football, Warner has a shot of becoming the only guy in the league to do it for five straight contests.

”I think the thing is now we are putting full games together so much better than we did early,” Kurt Warner said. ”There were still some games early that I felt I played as well as I’ve ever played. It just seemed like it was for a half. First half in Seattle. Down in Jacksonville.”

”Now, I think what’s great about it is we’ve come together. We’re playing good as a team in all facets, and we’re doing it for 60 minutes.”

Of course, just like the Cardinals, the 49ers have…

Can Colts, Saints remain undefeated?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

13-0, that’s what both teams are gunning for this Sunday.

Yes, the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints are still undefeated at this point of the 2009 NFL football season. They have the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Falcons respectively, can they come out of Week 14 still perfect?

First, the Indianapolis Colts. Unlike the Saints, the Colts have been here before, 12-0 with only four more games to play in the season. In fact, the Colts have been so dominant that they have this massive 21-game winning streak going for them when they take on the Denver Broncos. 21 straight wins, that’s incredible.

peyton_manningCan they beat the Denver Broncos this Sunday to remain perfect? The Colts would sure love to beat the Broncos alright, but their main concern is to clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They could care less about a perfect season.

”Being 12-0 is always a good thing,” Colts running back Joseph Addai said. ”I think the winning streak builds confidence. We’ve seen too many teams that go undefeated and toward the end of the season they really don’t make it all the way to the Super Bowl title.”

If Peyton Manning and the Colts beat Denver on Sunday for their record-setting 22nd consecutive regular season victory, they will also clinch the AFC’s top seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. And that is more important to these guys than making the 1972 Dolphins cry.

A win over the Broncos (8-4) would make the Colts 13-0. San Diego (9-3) and Cincinnati (9-3) are the only other AFC teams who can reach 13 wins, but they still play each other. The winner of that game would lose a tiebreaker to Indianapolis at 13-3 based on common opponents.

As far as the New Orleans Saints are concerned…

Nuggets take on Iverson and the 76ers

Monday, December 7th, 2009

And in case you’re wondering, Iverson will start.

After all the whining about not starting this 2009 NBA basketball season, it looks like Allen Iverson may finally get his wish because after he returned to the Philadelphia 76ers a few days ago, current 76ers head coach Eddie Jordan has already said he will start Iverson, probably because he doesn’t have anybody else left.

In case you didn’t know, yes, Allen Iverson is back where it started it all, Philadelphia, returning to the very team that drafted him to the NBA after a bitter parting back in 2006.

allen_iversonIt’s funny that when Iverson left the 76ers, the team was at the very bottom of the Eastern Conference and on game night, he will return to the same team still at the very bottom of the East. When the Sixers traded Iverson to the Nuggets in 2006, they were 5-18 and on an 11-game losing streak. The Sixers are 5-15 and on a nine-game losing streak when Iverson returns Monday.

Will Iverson’s return to the Philadelphia 76ers be the boost the team is looking for? Maybe. At least their dwindling ticket sales will improve a bit.

Iverson practiced with the other four starters who will likely start on Monday against the Denver Nuggets, one of the three teams Iverson played for after leaving Philly in 2006. Iverson joined Samuel Dalembert, Elton Brand, Thaddeus Young and Willie Green in his first practice back with the team.

”It was like deja vu,” 76ers center Samuel Dalembert said of watching him practice.

”He made a difference already in practice,” coach Jordan said. ”His talking, his presence, being a step ahead of the play defensively.”

The 76ers hope they can say the same of the returning Iverson come game time with the injuries they’ve been having this season. Leading scorer Andre Iguodala is out with a sore ankle and is questionable for Monday’s game while Lou Williams it out indefinitely because of a broken jaw.

All these injuries equate to a miserable 5-15 start for…

Packers – Ravens on Monday Night

Monday, December 7th, 2009

The last few trips the Ravens made to the NFC North, they haven’t been good ones.

The Baltimore Ravens have struggled when facing teams from the NFC North, especially playing against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. And since that’s where these Ravens are going to be this Sunday when we conclude Week 13 of the 2009 NFL football season, the Ravens know exactly what they have to deal with at Lambeau.

”You know what comes with Lambeau Field,” Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said. ”You know the history behind it.” However, it seems the Ravens have had their problems with other NFC North stadiums as well. In the 14 years that the Ravens have been in the NFL, they have never EVER won in Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota or Detroit, losing all of the six games the Ravens have played in those stadiums.

aaron_rodgersAnd since they have a young Aaron Rodgers who just went for three touchdowns and 348 yards to lead the Green Bay Packers pound the Lions last week on Thanksgiving, I’m definitely not liking the Ravens’ chances this Monday.

To say that the Baltimore Ravens hate playing in the NFC North could be an understatement.

You see, the Ravens have always been humiliated every single time they make the trip north. They lost to the Lions in a penalty-filled game once. They also let then Bears running back James Allen look like Walter Payton the way he ran the ball against the Ravens defense. They let then Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre rip them apart in Green Bay after a Super Bowl season and who can forget the way the Ravens missed out on beating the Vikings after Steve Hauschka missed what would’ve been the game-winning field goal?

The Ravens definitely hate playing those guys from the NFC North.

And for a team known for its defense, it’s ironic that the Ravens will have to face the no.1 ranked defense in the league. Yes, the Packers now have the best defense in the league at this point of the season.

For the third straight week, the Ravens have to…
