Goodell reinstates Vick to the NFL

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

After 18 months in jail, Vick is now officially reinstated in the NFL.

The only problem Michel Vick has to deal with now is look for a team willing to sign him up for the 2009 NFL football season. And as far as that goes, we all know no team has expressed their desire in having him, as of this writing anyway.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is letting Michael Vick take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings. Hell, he can even play in the final two preseason games now, that is if he can find a team to play for.

michael_vickAside from the fact that Vick needs to convince the Atlanta Falcons to take him back or any other team to give him a chance for that matter, there’s this one little stipulation that can probably be considered a buzz killer, if you’re a huge Vick fan. Get this, if Vick manages to get himself a new team in a few weeks, he won’t be able to play for that team until Week 6 of the 2009 NFL season. It’s only then will Goodell consider Vick for full reinstatement.

Sucks eh?

In a letter written by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, he addressed Vick saying, ‘’I accept that you are sincere when you say that you want to, and will, turn your life around, and that you intend to be a positive role model for others. I am prepared to offer you that opportunity. Whether you succeed is entirely in your hands.’’

‘’Needless to say, your margin for error is extremely limited. I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you and to dedicate yourself to rebuilding your life and your career. If you do this, the NFL will support you.’’

As far as Vick is concerned, he issued this statement…

Is Lewis Hamilton officially back?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Lewis Hamilton finally scored his first win of the season.

With Lewis Hamilton being the defending F1 world champion, losing all those races this 2009 F1 season has really scarred his ego a great deal. He never got a podium finish in the first nine races of the season. Hell, he even went scoreless in the last five races for crying out loud.

It all changed in the 2009 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest where the defending champ finally got his maiden win of the year. Yup, he finally won a race, finishing in front of second place finisher Kimi Raikkonen and third placer, Mark Webber.

lewis_hamiltonHe could care less for Felipe Massa who was in a hospital due to a freak accident during qualifying.

‘’It is an incredible feeling to be back here after all,’’ Lewis Hamilton said. ‘’It feels such a long time away, such a struggle with me and the team but as I said on the in-lap I am so proud of the guys.’’

‘’I go to the factory and see how hard everyone pushing, they never gave up and it is something very rare to see in a large group of people. We didn’t expect to win this weekend. I didn’t feel we had pace to win but the car felt fantastic. It’s incredibly special to be back up here, not just on the podium but just to get this win.’’

‘’The car was fantastic. The team asked me to look after tires, and through experience I was able to do that, so thanks to the guys and fans, and my family.’’

‘’We have to take as much as we…

NASCAR returns to Indianapolis Sunday

Friday, July 24th, 2009

It’s time to rev up your engines again.

The Allstate 400 at the Brickyard will be the twentieth race of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season and the sixteenth NASCAR race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). The 160-lap, 400 miles (640 km) event is scheduled on July 26 at the 2.5 miles (4.0 km) IMS located in Speedway, Indiana. By this time drivers are battling for every point and separating into contenders.

As the second most popular race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard doesn’t take a back seat to anything. But this is one of the most popular NASCAR races because the track itself challenges drivers.

Tony Stewart maintainsjimmie_johnson his hold on the top spot in the standings. He has two wins, 11 top-five finishes and 15 top-10s in 19 races. He has already collected $4,429,930 in winnings.

However, although Tony Stewart has a sizeable lead, Jeff Gordon is safely positioned to make the Chase. He has one win, 10 top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. He has won $3,835,490.

Kurt Busch, on the other hand, has one win, six top-five and 10 top-10 finishes.

One of the big shocks of the 2009 season is the fact Carl Edwards remains winless through 19 races. He has five top-five and nine top-10 finishes with $3,191,650 in earnings.

Kyle Busch is having some struggles lately as well. He continues to drop and is now hanging on to the 10th position in the standings. However, he has three wins, four top-five and six top-10 finishes, keeping him optimistic about his title chances.

”I think team performance this year has…”

Brawn GP vs. Red Bull in Hungarian GP

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Yes, it’s all about Brawn GP and Red Bull now.

The 2009 Formula 1 season has developed into a fascinating battle between Brawn GP and Red Bull. At one point Brawn’s Jenson Button appeared to be running away with the championship, but Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel are closing in on the Englishman as we approach Hungary.

The 2009 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix should see a titanic battle between Brawn GP and Red Bull. Mark Webber should be riding high with confidence after scoring his maiden F1 win last time out.

brawn_gpThe Hungaroring offers plenty of challenges to not only Red Bull, but all the drivers and engineers alike. The circuit features no high-speed corners, leading the team to run the highest possible downforce levels, while the primary concern for the engine team is ensuring good cooling in the usually hot conditions. The high summer temperatures also make life difficult for the drivers, who need to be in peak physical condition to cope with a race that gives them very little respite over its 70-lap distance.

The Red Bull team will be on a high with Mark Webber winning his first Grand Prix in style at the Nurburgring. He will be keen to follow up his success with another race win no doubt.

Webber’s Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel is surely happy for Webber being a nice young whipper-snapper but will need to drive his nuts off ASAP if he wants to kick this aussie’s behind back to the down-under.

As far as Brawn GP is concerned, it’s been…

Contador to win Stage 18 of the Tour?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Contador looks to continue winning stages this Thursday.

The 2009 Tour de France continues at crono course in the city of Annecy with stage 18. The course is mostly flat, interrupted by one category 3 climb. And since we all know Lance Armstrong wouldn’t be winning anything this year, I guess the excitement will remain flat as well.

Among the general classification riders, Alberto Contador and Cadel Evans have shown especially well against the clock so far this season. Evans and Contador have traded results, with Evans coming out on top at the Criterium Dauphine Libere and Contador placing higher in the Tour’s opening time trial in Monaco.

alberto_contadorContador’s teammate, Levi Leipheimer, meanwhile, came close to beating a flying Denis Menchov at the Cinque Terre time trial during the Giro d’Italia. Leipheimer placed third in the 2006 Tour de France on the strength of his consistent climbing and solid time trialing. Perhaps he has a repeat in mind for this year.

The Garmin-Slipstream riders Christian Vandevelde and Bradley Wiggins also time trial well, and if their form holds through the mountains, they both should do strong rides here. Wiggins has no previous history of riding high in the general classification, because of his long-time focus on riding the Olympics on the track. This season he showed well in the opening mountain stages of the Giro, but fell back under the cumulative effect of multiple climbing efforts. Vandevelde, meanwhile, has returned from serious injury, and it’s impossible to predict how well he will ride in the final week of this Tour.

The category 3 should help the climbers, but…
