Lakers – Nuggets. Game 1 Betting Tips
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009
The Lakers were able to advance to the conference finals after finally eliminating Houston.
Waiting for them of course, are the Denver Nuggets who have already secured their spot in the 2009 NBA Western Conference Finals days ahead of Kobe Bryant and company.
It’s the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets for the Western Conference title as the 2009 NBA Playoffs have already narrowed down the initial 16-team field to the final four.
For Denver Nuggets star
Carmelo Anthony, he is looking forward to facing-off with one of his Team USA teammates that won the gold in Beijing, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant.
‘’That’s my man,’’ Carmelo Anthony said, who then flashed a smile. ‘’But I don’t know him this week.
As far as facing the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers is concerned, Antony said, ‘’We’re very confident. Not cocky, but confident.’’ Yes, perhaps Anthony has every reason to be confident considering the kind of season they’re having.
The Nuggets have been on a roll thanks to Chauncey Billups and his leadership. Coming from Detroit via a trade, he transformed this team to a legitimate contender for the NBA championship. That’s something considering that just 12 months ago, this was a team in turmoil. The Nuggets had been bounced out from the playoffs for a fifth straight season, and changes were made to the staff and roster out of financial necessity.
To say that the team was in a downward spiral would be an understatement and it’s amazing how one trade can change everything.
STILL, as long as Kobe Bryant and his insatiable appetite…
Orlando’s Odds of beating Cleveland

Can Orlando beat Cleveland?
As the 2009 NBA Playoffs get more interesting each day, online sportsbooks like SPORTSBETTING.COM has already wondered on some future matchups and has even posted some prospective betting odds for it even before the final four teams were determined.
But since we already know that it’ll be the Cleveland cavaliers going up against the Orlando Magic in the East while the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Denver Nuggets in the West, it’s time for you to make your picks and earn a lot of cash already.
The Orlando Magic are only a 6.5-point underdog in their series opener vs. the Cavaliers. While the odds suggest the Magic have a better shot matching up against Lebron and his crew, bettors still like Cleveland to cover the number, as 76 percent of all the early action has come in on Cleveland.
These betting options are live right now at SPORTSBETTING.COM with their new ‘’Prospective Betting’’ thing. In fact, every possible playoff matchup through to the final game of the season is up on the board and open for betting.
Looking even further down the playoff road, bettors have been focused on the NBA Finals and in particular, the Los Angeles Lakers matching up against, you guessed it, LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers. Steady betting action has been coming in on the ‘’prospective’’ line for Game 1. That line has the Cavaliers favored by 4.5 points. The betting action is tilted 70 percent to the home side.
However, bettors have targeted the Los Angeles Lakers as a strong play in Game 3 of this ‘’prospective’’ series. This would be the Lakers’ first game back home at the Staples Center and if they are coming back down 2-0, or even split at 1-1. It looks like the bettors feel this is a good spot for Kobe Bryant and the team to have a big night, buoyed by the home town fans.
The line for Game 3 of the NBA Finals is LA -5. The Lakers are receiving 74 percent of the betting action.

134th Preakness Stakes Betting Tips

The second leg of the Triple Crown trail is this weekend and right now, I’m not liking the Derby champion’s chances.
While people who have a thing for the dramatic will likely root for Mine That Bird in the 134th Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico Race Course, these guys better realize that the Derby champ is really not that good of a bet if you’re looking to earn a lot of dough during the weekend.
You see, while Mine That Bird had an amazing run at Churchill Downs, the horse is just not that good of a contender on paper. And while some of the horse’s handlers believe that they have a shot of winning the 2009 Triple Crown title, they know deep down inside that their win at Churchill Downs was the flukiest win to ever transpire in the sport of horse racing.
S
o if Mine That Bird won’t win at Pimlico, who will? In case you haven’t realized it yet, we have a lot of contenders lined up for the Preakness that are solid choices to win the second leg of the Triple Crown trail. The obvious choice is of course, Mine That Bird’s nemesis Friesan Fire. The heavy favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, the horse had a somewhat problematic start out of the gates at Churchill Downs, leading to a disappointing 18th place finish. On the positive side, he has run a triple digit Beyer, a 104 in the Louisiana Derby, is exiting the Kentucky Derby, has made 4 starts this year (the optimum range is 3 to 6), and lacks professional points.
Big Drama is another new shooter in the Triple Crown wars, coming to Baltimore off a front-running victory in the Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park back on March 28. Although this is a sharp prep and earned a 108 Beyer it is a negative as this is a 7 week layoff (the maximum layoff is 30 days). He only has made the 1 start this year, and does have points in the professional wing, both negatives. He did, however, have four stakes wins as a juvenile, 3 against state-breds at Calder followed by the Delta Jackpot.
General Quarters, the 10th place Derby entrant, will be given another chance by trainer Tom McCarthy to make amends for his dull and unexplainable effort, and although the off track could have been an excuse, he still should go off at 20 to 1 or more. General Quarters who lacks professional points (which is a positive for the Preakness unlike in the Derby), ran a 102 when winning the Sam F. Davis, usually runs a stalking trip (stalkers or ralliers are favored over front-runners), and has two stakes wins this year. He lacks a stakes win as a juvenile, and did not have a sharp prep, having finishing a well-beaten 10th in the Kentucky Derby.

Rockets try to force a Game 7 in LA

Can the Rockets bring it back to LA?
In what is turning out to be one of the most predictable games you can bet on in the 2009 NBA Playoffs, Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals series between the Lakers and the Rockets is on this Thursday and Yao Ming will still be on street clothes, leaving his team prey to the visiting predators from LA.
You read it, after the Los Angeles Lakers literally obliterated the Rockets at the Staples Center 118-78 in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead, another win for the Purple and Gold seems inevitable. After all, the Lakers are coming off a 40-point win. And without Yao Ming to defend the paint for the Rockets, the Lakers should have a field day scoring inside yet again.
After being criticized by Magic Johnson following a humbling loss back in Game 4, the Lakers dominated the Houston Rockets right from the get-go in Game 5. If Magic provided the wake-up call, the Lakers were definitely awake, cranky but awake.
Led by Kobe Bryant who scored 26 points, the Rockets never had a chance. Pau Gasol chimed in with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Andrew Bynum came up with his best performance in the playoffs at last, scoring a playoff-high 14 points.
If the Lakers will always play this way every single time a Hall of Famer like Magic Johnson will describe the Lakers as a disgrace to Laker fans, then by all means, infuriate these Lakers some more. If that’s what it takes to get these Lakers to play at this level, I reckon Kobe Bryant won’t mind.
However, SINCE the Lakers did win Game 5 by a huge margin, what happens if the Lakers are not mad anymore? Will they revert back to that Laker team that lost in Game 4 to the Rockets who were playing without Yao Ming?
Magic Johnson better stand in…
Can Magic beat the Celtics in Game 6?
Tuesday, May 12th, 2009
Has the magic fizzled away from Orlando after one Glen Davis’ shot?
After making the game-winning shot at the buzzer to tie their best of seven series in the 2009 NBA Playoffs to two games each, Glen Davis instantaneously made every Celtic fan forget about Kevin Garnett.
Well, not really, but after Glen Davis helped the Boston Celtics win Game 4 in Orlando, a game the Celtics can’t afford to lose, you can bet your ass that he just tripled his little fan base in Boston.
If it wasn’t for that 21-foot jumper at the buzzer, the Boston Celtics would’ve been down in this series 1-3 to the Orlando Magic, facing elimination in Game 5 at home. But thanks to Davis, the Celtics now have homecourt advantage back with an opportunity to take the series lead for the first time in the second round.
Of course, Glen Davis could’ve just ran along happy with his improbable buzzer-beater in Game 4 to tie the series, but NO, he had to shove a 12-year-old kid while he ran like a ‘’raging animal with no regard for fans’ personal safety’’ towards the Celtics bench.
Yup, a ‘’raging animal with no regard for fans’ personal safety’’ was exactly the way the kid’s father, Ernest Provetti, described Boston’s new hero. The kid’s father was, in fact, so freaking pissed about the whole thing that he’s demanding an apology from Boston’s homicidal maniac.
Provetti said that he already e-mailed the NBA office demanding an apology from the 300-pound Celtic. NBA spokesman Tim Frank already confirmed the league received the e-mail but declined to comment on it.
Glen Davis scored 21 points in the game, that includes TWO crucial shots he made in the final minutes of the game. Yes, Davis made one crucial shot prior to the game-winner he made that led to him shoving a poor 12-year-old kid in Orlando.
If Glen Davis makes another…
