Yankees – Red Sox Game 2 in NY
Game 2 of the four-game season series between the Yankees and the Red Sox is this Saturday.
One of the most storied rivalry in all of sports continue this 2008 MLB baseball season this Saturday as the second of a four-game season seriesm resume at Yankee Stadium.
You read it, one of the longest, most bitter and most storied rivalries in professional sports will explode once again as the New York Yankees host bitter rivals, Boston Red Sox in a four-game season series at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY.
For over 100 years,
the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have been chief rivals, compounded by their geographic proximity. Since the inception of the wild card team and an added Division Series, the rivals have squared off in the American League championship series three times, with the Yankees winning twice in 1999 and 2003 before 2004 saw Boston celebrating.
In addition to that, both teams have met each other in the last regular season series of a season to decide the title in numerous occasions. Boston won one in 1904 before the Yankees bounced back in 1949. The most recent one was back in 2005 when the Yankees won again to capture the pennant.
Since Boston’s defeat of the New York Yankees in the seven-game American League championship series back in 2004, the rivalry has become more intense than ever before.
In their previous meeting last April 17, the Red Sox won the game 7-5 after Manny Ramirez hit a homer at Yankee Stadium, marking the 10th straight season he’s accomplished that feat in New York.
That’s good enough for the second-longest streak all-time at Yankee Stadium. Oh yeah, Ramirez was hit by a 97 mph fastball on the first pitch of the seventh inning by New York reliever Kyle Farnsworth during that fateful game too.
I won’t be surprised to see the next Boston guy to hit a homer hit by a fastball in New York this Thursday.
