Oscar De La Hoya will beat Pacquiao

Because it’s personal to the Golden Boy.

It’s ON this Saturday, when the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada features the Oscar De La Hoya – Manny Pacquiao fight, a bout being dubbed as the ‘’dream match.’’

And as stated, yes, it’s personal for ‘’the Golden Boy’’ Oscar De La Hoya. He probably feels too that it’s his responsibility to save the sport from guys like Pacquiao who don’t know squat about boxing and just prey on boxers who are either retiring or simply too old to return to the ring.

Oscar De La HoyaOf course, De La Hoya has all the reasons to end the career of ‘’the Pacman’’ Manny Pacquiao too. Aside from bastardizing the name of one of the greatest franchises in video game history, Pacquiao doesn’t care about the sport at all. To this guy, it’s just all about money. And while he pretends to be a man of integrity, what happened back in 2006 between De La Hoya and Pacquiao simply suggests that he is anything but trustworthy.

For all ya’ll uninformed, the Pacman double-crossed De La Hoya’s Golden Boy promotions when Pacquiao turned his back on what De La Hoya thought was a done deal between the two. Pacquiao ended up signing with promoter Bob Arum instead for probably a bigger contract.

Of course, De La Hoya was disappointed. There he was ready to take a fighter like Pacquiao under his wing and finally get this guy some people to teach him how to fight like a true boxer for a change and he ended up getting stabbed in the back.

‘’When he looked into my eyes and I looked into his eyes and we shook hands, we had a deal,’’ De La Hoya said. ‘’And he talks about honor. That’s also one of the reasons why this fight is so personal to me because of that night when we signed the deal and he turned his back on me. He’s going to have to pay come Dec.6.’’

Aside from backstabbing Golden Boy promotions last year, Pacquiao even had the audacity to have this pathetic ‘’Mexicans for Pacquiao’’ movement that should irritate every Mexican in the world.

Pacquiao claims he has iconic Mexican fighters rooting for him coming to his fight with the Golden Boy. Pacquiao claims he has Mexican fighters like Antonio Margarito, Julio Cesar Chavez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Jorge Arce and of all people, Erik Morales, rooting for him against the Mexican-American De La Hoya this Saturday.

And while I have no idea how, if it was true, that Pacquiao managed to get these Mexican legends on his side, something tells me that it all boils down to one thing, a percentage of the millions of dollars he’ll earn, win or lose, after the fight.

Of course, De La Hoya could care less.

‘’That’s beautiful and wonderful that Chavez and Margarito can support Manny Pacquiao,’’ De La Hoya said. ‘’I was down in Mexico City promoting an HBO series [recently] and I invited [former welterweight champion] Pipino Cuevas, I invited [former bantamweight champion Carlos] Zarate, I invited all the great legends from the past and there were like 15 of them.’’

‘’They’re all coming to the fight as my guests. And they’re all in my corner. So if he has Margarito and Chavez, that’s fine.’’

Boxing doesn’t need a conniving, money-laundering fool like Manny Pacquiao. Somebody needs to save boxing from this guy and I’m really REALLY hoping that the savior will be Oscar De La Hoya. This is the last thing he needs to do before he walks away from the sport for good.
