The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets‘ three game winning streak were snapped by the Maryland Terrapins 88-86 Saturday in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets both lose the game and the spread with an 88-86 final score as Maryland Terrapins’ Bambale Osby scored 18 points, including two key free throws with 16.9 seconds left and Landon Milbourne added 16 points to lead five Maryland Terrapins players in double figures.
The Maryland Terrapins 14-8, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference, winning its fourth in five games and eight of 10, also got 14 points from James Gist and Eric Hayes and Greivis Vasquez added 13.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 10-10, 3-4 ACC was led by Zach Peacock, who had 18 points. Matt Causey added 12 and D’Andre Bellhad had 11 points. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets got within 85-82 on six straight points by Zach Peacock with 1:05 left, then got the ball back when the Yellow Jackets’ Alade Aminu blocked a layup by Greivis Vasquez with 35 seconds remaining. Anthony Morrow badly missed a 3-point attempt to tie it with 19 seconds left and Bambale Osby made a pair of free throws — his only points of the second half — for an 87-82 lead with 16.9 seconds left. And the rest was a short cruise to and 88-86 victory.
The Georigria Tech Yellow will be playing the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on February 6 for their next ACC game while the Maryland Terrapins will be up against the Boston College Eagles on the same day.
