Joe Johnson, who almost made a triple-double stint scored 28 points, including four free throws in the final 23 seconds, and the Atlanta Hawks beat Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers 98-95 on Wednesday night.

With Atlanta Hawks leading 95-93, Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers was called for a turnover with 8 seconds left. Kobe Bryant, pressured by Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks, lost control of the ball and was called for over-and-back when he regained possession past the mid court line.

of the Atlanta Hawks who had 17 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 blocks, hit 1 of 2 free throws with 7.1 seconds left to push the lead to 3 points. Sasha Vujacic answered with a lay up for the LA Lakers with 3.7 seconds left. The LA Lakers quickly fouled Joe Johnson, who made two free throws to again push the lead to three. Derek Fisher missed a last-second 3-pointer for the LA Lakers.

Atlanta Hawks rookie center Al Horford had a double-double performance with 15 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.

Lamar Odom
led the Los Angeles Lakers by giving a double-double effort of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Derek Fisher added 17, and Vladimir Radmanovic had 13. Kobe Bryant had a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists, but the 11 points rather disappointing for a key all-star like Bryant. Newcomer Pau Gasol scored 12 points for the Lakers.

The Atlanta Hawks victory is also a win against the spread. The defeated LA Lakers drop to a record of 31-17 while the Atlanta Hawks improve their record to 20-24 this 2007-08 NBA regular season.

Hoping for another improvement on their record, the Atlanta Hawks will host Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 8. The LA Lakers will be on the road to face Rashard Lewis and the Orlando Magic on February 8.
