NBA Betting News: Shaq For Shawn!

shaquille-o-neal.jpgMiami Heat all-star Shaquille O’ Neal is leaving the NBA’s worst team in favor for some “hotter” pastures. What else can be hotter than the “heat” except for the sun. The Miami Heat decided to trade Shaquille O’ Neal for Phoenix Suns all-star Shawn Marion and substitute point guard Marcus Banks. Now, is this a fair trade?

How does the Miami Heat benefit? Well, the Heat can use another point guard in Marcus Banks, considering that Smush Parker and Jason Williams really haven’t been at their healthiest for the Miami Heat, who have the NBA’s worst record, and have yet to reach their 10th win of the season. Meanwhile, Shawn Marion fits well in the swing of things with a pretty good average in three-point range, and we all know and drool at his high-flying inside game.

What about the Phoenix Suns? Well, the Phoenix Suns haven’t really had a true center. Shaquille O’ Neal is a steal at the center spot for any time, considering the number of NBA championship rings he has. This season, however, has been difficult for the ailing Shaq, but maybe his new move to Phoenix might inspire him to keep fit and healthy, especially now that his odds improved for reaching the 2008 NBA Playoffs, or even the 2008 NBA Finals. Definitely, it would be a better atmosphere than the Miami Heat locker room this 2007-08 season. And certainly, Shaquille O’ Neal must be liking the thought of getting alley-oops from two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash, especially when the other team’s defense will be too distracted by Amare Stoudemire. Let’s just hope that Shaquille O’ Neal won’t get side-swiped by teammate Leandro Barbosa when Barbosa Brazilian blurs his way through the lane.

Take a look at the numbers and Shawn Marion’s numbers are just much better this season. Of course, Shaquille O’ Neal hasn’t had that many playing minutes to really draw a fair comparison, but then will that also be the case in Phoenix? We’ll just have to wait in see.

In the short term thing of things, it looks like the Phoenix Suns may have gotten away with the better deal, but in the long term of things, Shawn Marion will still have more years to bring than an aging Shaquille O’ Neal. Shawn Marion might not be able to save the Miami Heat into playoff contention this season, considering they only have 9 wins, but then it might get better in the following seasons, and maybe even a return to the NBA Championship for the Miami Heat. At least, the Miami Heat hopes that this move will build a championship future.
