College Basketball Results: Duke Blue Devils –8.5 at Virginia Tech Hokies

ncaab-duke-vs-virginia.jpgDuke Blue Devils overcame the –8.5 point spread as they trounced Virginia Tech Hokies 81-64 at Cassell Coliseum in the 2007-2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball.

It was a great win for the Duke Blue Devils, who does not only won the game but also the spread. Duke Blue Devils stalwart Kyle Singler scored 10 of his 16 points during an 18-9 run in the second half.

“It was important to keep the crowd out of it,” Duke Blue Devils Kyle Singler said. “Whenever you’re playing away from home, it’s definitely hostile and a difficult environment.”

Duke Blue Devils Kyle Singler answered Virginia Tech Hokies A.D Vassallo’s 3-pointer with one of his own, then had three of the Blue Devils’ next four baskets as they built a 53-45 lead. Duke Blue Devils (16-1, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) won their sixth straight game and for the third time in the past five drama-filled meetings with the Virginia Tech Hokies.

“I thought he was playing too much within himself in the first half,” Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “In the second half, he just came out and he made a couple of plays to start the second half that were huge. They were just huge.”

Duke Blue Devils got the usual numbers for Blue Devils Gerald Henderson who had 12 points and Blue Devils’ DeMarcus Nelson and Greg Paulus both had 10.

Virginia Tech Hokies now dropped to 11-8, 2-3, A.D Vassallo paced the Virginia Tech Hokies with 16 points, and while J.T Thompson had 13 and Deron Washington added 12 points.

Virginia Tech Hokies were playing without second-leading scorer and leading rebounder Jeff Allen, who is serving a two-game suspension for making contact with a referee at Georgia Tech on Saturday, the Hokies didn’t have enough fight and couldn’t keep up.

Duke Blue Devils next game will be against the Maryland Terrapins while the Virginia Tech Hokies tries to regain their touch go on to take the Boston College Eagles.
