Can Tebow win the Heisman again?
The Heisman, is Tim Tebow really the huge favorite to win it?
The Heisman Memorial Trophy Award is considered as the most prestigious award in American college football. The Heisman is given annually to the top football player in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). And since the 2008 NCAA college football season is almost done, we’ll discuss who will be challenging Florida’s Tim Tebow for that piece of hardware.
Starting off with Sam Bradford, this guy is a talented Big 12 quarterback who should be at the top of anybody’s ballot after he out dueled Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell in a 65-21 rout in Norman.
Bradford has been the model of consistency all season for the Oklahoma Sooners, completing 68.2 percent of his passes with 42 touchdowns and only six interceptions. His only blemish has been tossing two interceptions in a 45-35 loss to Texas on Oct.11. Bradford has been one of the better quarterbacks in college football all season, and the numbers prove it; 3,710 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, 4 rushing touchdowns.
Next up is Colt McCoy of the Texas Longhorns.
Colt McCoy is an inspiring leader. He’s a phenomenal quarterback and his team might end up winning the national championship because of him. But the fact is, his production does not compare to his Big 12 South rivals, but that doesn’t mean his numbers aren’t impressive. For the year, he’s got 3,134 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 8 rushing touchdowns.
McCoy is one of only three quarterbacks playing at FBS schools who have passed for more than 3,000 yards and ran for more than 500 this season. (Rice’s Chase Clement and Illinois’ Juice Williams are the two others.) McCoy has completed 77.2 percent of his passes for 3,134 yards and 30 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. His passer rating of 177.6 ranks fourth nationally and his 77.2 completion percentage ranks first. His worst game might have come in Texas’ 39-33 loss at Texas Tech on Nov.1, when he completed just 58.8 percent of his attempts, throwing two touchdowns and one interception.
Can they beat Tim Tebow for the Heisman Trophy?
The Florida Gators quarterback already won the Heisman Trophy last season with the best individual performance ever seen by a football player since Herschel Walker or Bo Jackson.
The numbers were already staggering then but since he is playing the best football of his career right now, I won’t be surprised to see the guy winning the 2008 Heisman Trophy, becoming college football’s best athlete for the second straight year.
