Who’ll be playing for the biggest title on ice?

The 2008 NHL playoffs is heating up as teams inch closer to the highly coveted Stanley Cup. Who could be playing for it? Read on.

From the Eastern Conference, No.2 seed Pittsburgh Penguins continue their run in the 2008 NHL Playoffs. Thanks mainly to their team captain Sidney Crosby. Sidney Crosby’s leadership has been the main factor, doing his part in scoring which is tied for second with 15 points in the postseason.

Detroit Red Wings‘’He never takes a shift off,’’ forward Max Talbot said. ‘’That’s the thing about him. He’s the best player in the world and the best worker on the team. It’s impossible for that not to make an impression.’’

Taking game one of the best of seven series against the Philadelphia Flyers was big for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins are 6-0 at home in the playoffs for the first time in franchise history and they have a good chance of making it all the way to the 2008 NHL Stanley Cup finals.

Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, the Detroit Red Wings took game 1 of their seven game series against the Dallas Stars. The Red Wings showed no signs of rust then, coming off a six-day lay off.

The Red Wings scored three power-play goals against a strong Dallas Stars penalty-killing unit. The Red Wings also improved to 6-0 at home and is one of the contenders for this year’s Stanley Cup.

Detroit was much quicker and consistently breaking out of the zone defense with quick, crisp passes while using their speed to win most races for the puck. If Detroit continues their stellar performance, they will likely represent the West and face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2008 Stanley Cup finals.

Of course, you have to watch the remaining games of the NHL playoffs to find out if that will materialize.
