2008 NFL Week 4 Sports Betting Tips
The first month of NFL football will conclude this Sunday and we have some great tips for you as always.
You read it, the 2008-09 NFL football season will be a month old. And after three weeks into the season, we found out that the Bills are for real, the Texans are still bad and Ronnie Brown can singlehandedly beat the living daylights out of the Patriots.
So what’s in store for us football fans when the NFL season resumes this Sunday? Let’s start with the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets because you just know Brett Favre will be itching to get back to the win column after losing his second straight game last Monday night.
Sure, Favre’s availability against the Arizona Cardinals is still unclear after he rolled on his ankle during the third quarter of the Jets’ 48-29 loss to San Diego last Monday but since the guy holds the NFL record of starting in 256 straight regular season games, I have a feeling he’ll still show up and play. After all, he asked for all of this when he decided to unretire right?
If Favre plays, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to pick the New York Jets over the Cardinals by a touchdown.
Favre’s former mates will be in action as well when the Green Bay Packers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what should be another tough NFC match-up for the cheeseheads. After suffering a big loss to the Cowboys last Sunday night, traveling to Tampa to play the Bucs just might be too unforgiving for the young Aaron Rodgers. Besides, the Buccaneers have one of the better defenses in the league and I don’t think Green Bay’s A-Rod can come up with magic over Jon Gruden’s D.
Pick the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win by a field goal.
Cinderella runs have become the theme in the NFL this season and the Tennessee Titans are one of those teams riding it. They are a perfect 3-0 even without star quarterback Vince Young and while the young (pun intended…) quarterback is finally ready to go again, the Titans are not ready to make the switch just yet since Kerry Collins is still winning games for them.
However, the Tennessee Titans have the Minnesota Vikings visiting this Sunday and I have a feeling the Vikes will be the ones who’ll end Collins’ Cinderella season in Tennessee. The Vikings finally scored their first win of the season by dealing Carolina their first loss of the year last Sunday. With Gus Frerotte finally running the offense, the Vikings are finally in form to make some noise in the NFC North.
Pick the Minnesota Vikings to deal the Titans their first loss of the season. Vikes by three.
Two winless teams, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns, will slug it out on Sunday, both looking to earn their first taste of victory in the 2008-09 NFL season. And while both teams have malfunctioning offenses this year, at least Cincinnati’s improved a little bit last week. Carson Palmer was 27-for-39 passing for 286 yards, scoring his first touchdown of the season for the Bengals and while they still lost to the Giants 26-23, it wasn’t as bad as the day Cleveland had after their quarterback Derek Anderson had his third consecutive poor game in a 28-10 loss to Baltimore.
Pick the Cincinnati Bengals to accidentally win this one by three points.
One team riding with a whole lot of momentum this week are the Jacksonville Jaguars. They barely avoided a miserable 0-3 start by beating the shocked Indianapolis Colts, 23-21, last Sunday. They have the 0-2 Houston Texans next and after those guys let the Titans take advantage of them 31-12 last Sunday, I don’t think they’ll be able to stop the Jaguars from doing the same.
Pick the Jacksonville Jaguars to win this one on the ground by a touchdown.
The Atlanta Falcons will again rely on the performance of their rookie quarterback Matt Ryan when they face the 2-1 Carolina Panthers, who just tasted their first loss of the season last Sunday in Steve Smith’s return from the two-game suspension. The Panthers still have no idea how good they can be this year with a rejuvenated Jake Delhomme and a returning Steve Smith. They were unfortunate to play the tough Vikings defense last Sunday in Smith’s first game of the season and with the Falcons, who still have no idea how to play D, standing on their way next, I have a feeling Smith will get the breakout game he’s been looking for.
Our pick? The Carolina Panthers are frustrated after the Vikes dealt them their first loss of the year. Expect them to take out their frustrations on Atlanta this Sunday.
After a couple of close games and nail-bitting wins, the Denver Broncos find themselves on top of the AFC West with a perfect 3-0 record. They have the 0-3 Kansas City Chiefs next and since taking Tom Brady out for the rest of the year is the only thing going for Kansas City this season, I don’t think the Chiefs would be able to stop the Broncos from going 4-0.
The Denver Broncos, to me, is the best team in the AFC right now and I’m picking these guys to win by a touchdown on the ground this Sunday.
The New Orleans Saints, after winning their first game of the season, have dropped two straight games on the road that dropped them dead last in the NFC South. They are looking to get back on the win column when they resume their campaign at home. They have the San Francisco 49ers next, a team riding with confidence after winning two straight games. Still, I’m expecting the Saints to finally break this two-game losing streak since they’ll be back at the Superdome where they started the season with a 24-20 win over Tampa Bay.
The New Orleans Saints is a good team at home and since they still have the ‘’you and me against adversity’’ thing going in New Orleans after all them hurricanes that almost destroyed their spirits, I’m picking these guys to win by a touchdown.
The San Diego Chargers have continued to improve each week and with the Oakland Raiders testing their mettle next, there’s no reason why the Chargers won’t continue improving on that football field. The Chargers finally lived up to their expectations last Monday night by dismantling the Jets, 48-29. That could be one of those games the Chargers can look back and say, ‘’yeah, we turned it on against New York’’ and since the Raiders are still struggling anyway, not to mention all these rumors about their head coach Lane Kiffin about to get fired by Al Davis, I’m not expecting the Radiers to be fully focused on beating the Chargers to score win number two.
Our pick? The San Diego Chargers will destroy their opponents again, this time by three touchdowns.
Two teams going on separate directions will collide as the 3-0 Buffalo Bills (yes, the Bills are 3-0…) take on the 0-3 St. Louis Rams. Week after week, Bills quarterback Trent Edwards has been shocking everybody. He is having a career season despite only having 12 NFL starts to his credit. He already has three fourth-quarter comeback wins in those 12 starts, two of them coming from this year, and if you’re still not on the Trent Edwards bandwagon, now is probably the perfect time to hop in.
The Rams are in disarray this season and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t pick the Buffalo Bills to win this one, BIG.
We have a classic NFC rivalry next as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Washington Redskins. Both teams are in the very competitive NFC East, probably the best division in football right now, and if it wasn’t for these Cowboys and the Giants, who are both 3-0 at this point of the season, the Redskins, as well as the Eagles, would’ve been undefeated as well.
The Washington Redskins, after losing to the Giants to start the season, won the next two games to improve their record to 2-1. However, they only won those two games barely, beating the Saints by five before beating the Cards by seven and I don’t think these guys can catch up to the high-flying Cowboys who have been blowing people away with their solid passing game.
Our pick? The Dallas Cowboys by two touchdowns.
Sunday Night Football will conclude the weekend’s crop of football games with an interesting match-up you can’t afford to miss. We have the high-flying Philadelphia Eagles visiting the Chicago Bears at Ford Field in what would be another game that will pit offense against defense.
In case you didn’t know, Philadelphia Eagles runningback Brian Westbrook is questionable for this Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. And even if Westbrook does suit up to play, you can almost expect the Bears defense to come at him with full force and take advantage of that tender ankle.
Yes, it’s a lose-lose situation for the Philadelphia Eagles in this one. Of course, Donovan McNabb still has the talent to lead his team over a win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field but without a running game to back him up, McNabb better come up with the game of his life.
Our pick? We’re still picking the Philadelphia Eagles over the Bears just because we found out that Kyle Orton is no better than Rex Grossman. Eagles by three.
Culminating Week 4 in the NFL, we have Monday Night Football, where the Baltimore Ravens travel to Heinz Field to play the Pittsburgh Steelers. ‘’Defense wins championships’’ has been a common cliché in sports and on Monday night, although we won’t necessarily find out if it can really win the big one, we’ll find out which one is better.
Both the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers use the same approach in winning games, DEFENSE. And with that D, it helped Baltimore and Pittsburgh to land first and second respectively in the AFC North as they continue to run away from Cincinnati and Cleveland, both yet to have a win this year.
The Steelers definitely want to catch up to the high-flying Ravens but with Ben Roethlisberger probably doubtful for this one after getting knocked down to the ground more than any quarterback should by the Eagles defense, this is more of an opportunity for the Ravens to further pad their lead in the division than the Steelers catching up.
Our pick? The Baltimore Ravens to win a defensive struggle on Monday night.
