The Giants win the first game of the season!

How about that huh? KNown to be slow starters, the Giants won with Eli Manning scoring the first touchdown of the 2008-09 NFL football season. It doesn’t get any better than that.

The question now is, can they return to the big dance and win Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa?

With the New York Giants covering the spread by five points and Eli Manning starting their campaign strong, they’re certainly on the right track.

Ricky WilliamsWeek 1 continues on Sunday with 13 games. Let’s start with the St. Louis Rams visiting the Philadelphia Eagles. After a tumultuous season, the Rams come in the brand new season with a new sense of hope. They just signed Steven Jackson to a new contract and with new offensive coordinator Al Saunders taking over, they’re hoping to bring back the offense once dubbed as the greatest show on turf.

However, the Philadelphia Eagles have Donovan McNabb healthy again and I don’t see these Rams beating the Eagles in Philly. Our pick? The Eagles by ten.

The Cincinnati Bengals, led by a focused Chad Johnson, will visit the Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals still have one of the high-scoring offensive schemes in the league but with Rudi Johnson now gone, I’m expecting this offense to slow down a little bit.

Our pick? The Baltimore Ravens cover the spread by a touchdown.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the New Orleans Saints next and since a hurricane is once again fucking New Orleans up like a Las Vegas whore, I’m not expecting those guys to be focused enough to beat Jon Gruden and his Bucs.

Our pick? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cover the spread by a field goal.

The worst team of the league last season, the Miami Dolphins, will be taking on the New York Jets, led by arguably the best player in history to play quarterback, Brett Favre.

As of press time, the Dolphins are only +3 underdogs for some reason. Yes, seems like our sportsbooks no longer has some love for the immortal Brett Favre. But I do.

That’s why I’m picking the New York Jets to win by two touchdowns.

Next, the 18-1 New England Patriots will once again resume their campaign for another Super Bowl title, hoping that they can reach the top of the mountain once again and hopefully, not fall flat on their asses in the championship game. They have the Kansas City Chiefs visiting Foxboro and since those guys still don’t have a decent quarterback, I’m expecting them to lose BIG to New England.

Our pick? The New England Patriots cover the spread by a lot of points.

The ‘’Vince Young project’’ continues when the Tennessee Titans host the Jacksonville Jaguars. This should be a close game since both teams finished last season strong.

I’m picking the Jacksonville Jaguars to win by a touchdown.

And while that one should be a tightly contested game, this one could be as lopsided as New England’s. The Detroit Lions, with new runningback Rudi Johnson, will take on the Atlanta Falcons, a team still looking for the guy who can lead them back to glory since Michael Vick started playing with dogs.

The Detroit Lions have improved their offense to go with their still solid D. Pick the Lions to win by two touchdowns.

The Seattle Seahawks visit the Buffalo Bills next as they will soon see what’s life like without a running game. The Seahawks have finally parted ways with Shaun Alexander and although those guys believe they still have a strong running game without the former league MVP, I still think otherwise.

Besides, the Buffalo Bills have surprised many skeptics last season and I’m expecting them to do the same in the first week of the regular season. Pick the Bills to beat the visiting Seahawks by a field goal.

The Houston Texans, for some reason, are still playing as the second Texan team in the NFL. They are still in no way close to what the Cowboys have become and against the Steel Curtain this Sunday, I’m expecting them to fold fast.

Our pick is the obvious. Pick the Pittsburgh Steelers to win by not one, not two, but THREE touchdowns.

Speaking of Texas, the Dallas Cowboys are expected to have a breakout season this year. They will visit the Cleveland Browns this Sunday and although the Browns had a solid 10-6 campaign last year, there’s now way in hell they can beat a Cowboys team looking to finally end a season with a championship ring rather than a highlight of Tony Romo fumbling a football.

Our pick? The Dallas Cowboys win by a touchdown to cover the spread.

The San Diego Chargers ALMOST became the team that ended the Patriots’ pursuit of perfection last season. They are expected to come out strong again this season and with LaDainian Tomlinson still behind Phillip Rivers, I can’t see any reason why they can’t.

They have the Carolina Panthers, a team still looking for that one guy who can help out Steve Smith offensively. And since Shawn Merriman gave it a go to help out his Chargers this season, I’m expecting the Chargers to win by a touchdown.

In what could be a story of two quarterbacks, Matt Leinart and Alex Smith will once again look to justify their high draft selections when they lead the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers respectively.

This is a game between two of the worst teams in the league and since this game will be played in San Francisco, I’m expecting the San Francisco 49ers to ACCIDENTALLY win this one by a field goal.

A rematch of Super Bowl XLII two seasons ago will take the field as the Indianapolis Colts take on the Chicago Bears for this season’s first edition of Sunday Night Football.

The weakness of the Chicago Bears two seasons ago during that fateful Super Bowl game was quarterback play. Two years later, it’s STILL a problem. That’s why I’m picking Peyton Manning to lead his Colts and beat the Bears again.

Pick the Indianapolis Colts to win by two touchdowns to cover the spread.

Monday Night Football returns with a double-header blockbuster. The Minnesota Vikings take on the Green Bay Packers in the first game before an AFC rivalry is renewed when the Denver Broncos take on the Oakland Raiders.

Let’s start with the Minnesota Vikings.

Since Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss left the Twin Cities, the Vikings were left without anyone to carry on the winning tradition. When last season’s draft brought them Adrian Peterson, the Vikes, all of a sudden, can taste that winning tradition again.

Add the guy’s offensive skills with the defense the Vikings were able to establish to be the best in the league and the Twin Cities once again have the recipe for greatness. You expect the Green Bay Packers, now without Brett Favre, to score points over that D? Puh-lease… Expect the Vikes to win a defensive struggle by a touchdown.

And for the last game of Week 1, the Denver Broncos will visit the Oakland Raiders to conclude this week’s edition of Monday Night Football. These two teams have one of the storied rivalries in football history and for some reason, many people would still want to see both of these teams duke it out, no matter how both teams have declined through the years.

STILL, this shouldn’t be a hard decision for all ya’ll. The Denver Broncos still have a solid running game to go side-by-side with a tremendous set of corners. The Raiders are still spitting on the tradition of the once great Silver and Black and I’m expecting them to lose their first of many losses in the first week of the season.
