Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid?
Monday, June 30th, 2008
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of becoming the world’s most expensive player if he decides to take on Real Madrid’s generous offer.
Now that Cristiano Ronaldo’s stint in the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship is over after Portugal lost to Germany, he is now looking into a possible move from Old Trafford and the defending Champions League champions Manchester United, to Real Madrid and the Spanish Premiere League.
After failing to lead Portugal deeper
into the Euro 2008 tournament, it seems that didn’t hurt his market value so to speak. Real Madrid still wants to land the fiery Portugese striker and after he captured both the English Premiership and the UEFA Champions League titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid is STILL willing to make him the highest paid football player in the world.
Zinedine Zidane, still the highest paid footballer after moving from Juventus to Real Madrid, agrees with his former club. He believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is worthy to break his own record breaking fee and the Portugese’s 3-2 loss to Germany should not slow down his bandwagon.
‘’He has had a great season, a league and Champions League winner, and I think the fact that he and Portugal got knocked out at the quarter-finals doesn’t mean anything because they were up against a great Germany team,’’ retired Zinedine Zidane said.
‘’It doesn’t say anything about the merits during the year. He is not scared of his new Real Madrid engagement and every time they wanted good players they got them. Now it depends on his personal plans, if he wants to…”
Manny Pacquiao vs David Diaz for WBC Lightweight Title
Friday, June 27th, 2008
It’s this Saturday as Manny Pacquiao will try to win the WBC Lightweight Championship from David Diaz.
The question is, can Manny Pacquiao beat David Diaz and become the first Asian to win four titles in different weight classes? Diaz has what it takes to shock the world and if the Pacman is not careful, he just might get shocked by the defending champ himself.
Pacquiao will return inside the ring against another Mexican fighter, David Diaz, to fight for Diaz’ WBC Lightweight Championship belt at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This will be a 12-round bout promoted by Top rank in association with MP Promotions. Manny Pacquiao, the reigning WBC Super Featherweight Champion, (who for some reason climbed up weight class to avoid Juan Manuel Marquez…) calls this bout his toughest battle yet.
‘’This will be my hardest-fought battle,’’ Manny Pacquiao said.
‘’It’s been over three years since I have changed weight divisions and I will be doing it against the lightweight division’s world champion. I saw how he took the fight to Erik Morales in his last title defense and I’m expecting to see the same firepower out of him when we meet. But this is my drive for five. Five world titles in five different weight classes and I will not be denied. I am fighting for history, for destiny and for my people of the Philippines.’’
‘’Manny Pacquiao has beaten many great fighters, especially Mexicans like Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Larios and Solis. That’s why they call him ‘The Mexicutioner.’ I will shock the world and beat Pacquiao at his…
Time to bet on Wimbledon 2008
Thursday, June 26th, 2008
The most grandiose tennis tournament in the world is ON people.
That’s right, the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships, otherwise known simply as Wimbledon, have begun Monday as the top tennis players in the world look to win the very tournament, the ONLY tournament that matters.
While F1 has Monaco, NASCAR has Daytona, soccer has the World Cup and pro wrestling has WrestleMania, tennis has Wimbledon. This tennis tournament in England has always become the highlight of the tennis season and you can bet that every tennis player out there will be out looking to win the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, no matter how hard it will take them.
The 2008 Wimbledon Championships will take place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club starting June 23 through July 6, 2008. This year marks the 132nd edition of the Wimbledon Championships, and the third Grand Slam event of the year.
And just like any other Wimbledon tournaments in the past, the French Open champion will be looking to win in England and follow up on his or her last Grand Slam success.
This year, we have 2008 French Open champions, Rafael Nadal and Ana Ivanovic.
While they are two of the best tennis players we have today, we all know Nadal can’t win if they’re not playing on clay. Ana Ivanovic, on the other hand, won this year’s tournament on clay just because Maria Sharapova wasn’t around to give the Serbian yet another disappointment in the final match.
After all, Maria Sharapova will come in STILL the reigning Wimbledon champion. It is also in Wimbledon where everybody started noticing how good she really is.
This is STILL Sharapova’s turf and her…
2008 NBA Draft is on Thursday
Tuesday, June 24th, 2008
The road to the 2009 NBA Finals begin.
Because with the 2008 NBA Draft near, teams will start gearing up for the next season ahead in November. Will we see the next sensation in this year’s draft who will upstage LeBron James or will we see another team make a big mistake and watch a rookie be as miserable on the court as Darko Milicic?
The 2008 NBA Draft, slated on June 26 at the world’s most famous arena in Madison Square Garden, is all set. The big question now is, who are this year’s top prospects?
To start off, we begin with the possible overall number one pick Michael Beasley, a power-forward from Kansas State who is already making some noise around the NBA. Beasley is touted to be the best outside-inside talent in the draft and he is a sure lock to go No.1 overall.
Beasley will be most likely followed by either Derrick Rose or O.J Mayo. The former, a freshman from Memphis, believed to be the best pure point guard in the draft and arguably the most physically gifted point guard to enter the NBA since Baron Davis.
While the latter, O.J Mayo, a freshman from USC, is perceived by many NBA scouts to have the talent to be a great scorer in the NBA. He is also believed to be one of the best college players to enter the draft.
Other NBA Draft prospects include Jerryd Bayless, a 6-3 point guard from Arizona. He is an athletic guard, putting up big numbers as a freshman at Arizona. While Stanford’s center, Brook Lopez, is perceived by people as a big, athletic center who can produce huge numbers in the NBA like he did in the Pac-10.
Next we have Anthony Randolph, a…
Can Boston Red Sox dominate the American League in MLB Baseball again?
Monday, June 23rd, 2008
The American League is still Boston’s turf.
The 2008 MLB baseball season is here as the Red Sox begin their quest to become champions of baseball for the second straight year.
Like last season, everybody’s still so fixated on the American League compared to the National League. While NBA fans favor the Western conference more than the East, baseball has this one.
Defending champions Boston Red Sox lead the pack from the American League East while the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels lead the Central and West divisions respectively.
Boston Red Sox are still coming out strong after winning the MLB World Series last season. They have a 43-28 win-loss record, with a decent 7-3 showing in their last 10 games.
In the Central division, the Chicago White Sox, with a 38-30 win-loss mark, lead. These guys seem to have the motivation this season to win it all. Take their last game against the Colorado Rockies for instance, Chicago beat Colorado 5-4 after rallying in the seventh inning for three runs, giving the South Siders their ninth straight win at U.S. Cellular Field.
In the West Coast, the 41-28 record of the Los Angeles Angels gave them the top spot in this division. With Chone Figgins back at the top of the Angels’ rotation, the Angels are looking like solid contenders for the World Series title.
The Angels’ offense seemed to be missing…
