Manchester United captures 2008 English Premiership

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Manchester United, champions of English football!

The 2007-08 English Premier League season finally concluded with the usual suspects, Man-U, winning the coveted English football title after beating Wigan 2-0 on the final day of the season.

This is now the 10th Premier League championship the Manchester United Red Devils have won in the last 16 years. Talk about domination huh? After taking it away from Chelsea last season, Man-U made sure that their title win last year was no fluke after successfully defending their crown despite the slow start to the season.

Wayne RooneySpeaking of Chelsea FC, they had the opportunity to make this year’s Premiership title chase interesting. They were up against Bolton on the final day of the season, holding a 1-0 lead. They could’ve had a 2-0 win over Bolton and steal the title away from their rivals from Man-U by taking over the points lead in the standings, instead, they gave up a goal merely a few minutes before the match ended, ending up with a 1-1 draw to the Bolton Wanderers and two points behind Man-U after the anticlimactic finish.

In the end, Manchester United finished with 87 championship points to win this year’s Premiership while Chelsea FC wound up with 85. This was the closest finish for the Premiership since Man-U edged Arsenal by a single point back in 1999.

Now, Manchester United, with 10 Premiership titles, will continue to chase the all-time record set by Liverpool of 18 league titles. Sure, these guys still have a long way to go before they get there but with young guns Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney on their side, eight more Premierships are not that too difficult to…

Bet on the 2008 French Open now!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Betting on the latest tennis tournament on clay was almost put to sleep.

The 2008 French Open at Roland Garros is merely days away before it kicks off. However, organizers of the clay court tournament want to stop any betting activity whatsoever on the coming Grand Slam event.

Luckily for sports betting fans, major online gambling companies fended off a legal challenge from French Open organizers to stop betting activities on the coming Grand Slam tournament. A liege court ruled that those online gambling companies are not violating any rights of the French tennis federation by offering bets for French Open matches.

Rafael NadalThe French tennis federation claimed that online betting has already stained the reputation of the French Open, especially after all those scandals Internet gambling found itself into. Because of this, the federation decided to sue three companies namely; Betfair, bwin and Ladbrokes.
Unfortunately for the federation, the court ruled in favor of the three.

In a statement, the European Gaming & Betting Association said the court had concluded ”these operators had behaved in a prudent and diligent manner.”

”EU-licensed bookmakers are professionals that have a high level of expertise, know-how and risk management skills. This has been clearly recognized by the Belgian judge looking at the fact-based evidence to dismiss all the claims in this case,” EGBA Secretary General Sigrid Ligne said.

”The judge also considered that the simple mention of…

2008 Kentucky Derby Betting Tips

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Here are some betting tips that could help you strengthen your decision in picking the correct horse that’ll let you win big bucks in the 2008 Kentucky Derby.

FIRST, pick a trainer who has several talented 2008 Triple Crown series champ nominees.

Right now, trainers Nick Zito, Steve Asmussen, Bill Mott, Bob Baffert, and Todd Pletcher seem to be holding the strongest hands with each barn containing several top contenders and a few sleepers as well. These Big Browntrainers are sure to rack up points on the Derby Trail with a bevy of talented 3-year-olds at their disposal.

Trainer Nick Zito has two horses that will be running for the 2008 Kentucky Derby, Cool Coal Man and Anak Nakal. Cool Coal Man won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes off of what appeared to be a perfect stalking trip. Although the horse failed to fire in the Blue Grass Stakes on 4/12 at Keeneland, the thoroughbred is still Nick Zito’s best chance in the Derby with the recent defection of War Pass.

Anak Nakal, who won the Kentucky Jockey Club at 2 years old, hasn’t really had a solid 3 year old campaign. The horse looked flat in both the Rebel and the Fountain of Youth Stakes, that’s probably why this horse has the look of a total long-shot about him.

Horse racing trainer Steve Asmussen fielded Pyro and Z Fortune with the former having the stronger chance of winning it all in the 2008 Kentucky Derby.

Bill Mott has Court Vision, who turned in a workout of 4 furlongs in 46.20 at Churchill Downs last April 17. Mott also has Z Humor, a horse that ranks among the leaders in terms of graded stakes earnings to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, but hasn’t really shown…
