MLB Betting Odds: Atlanta Braves poised to reclaim NL East crown
The Atlanta Braves come off their first year in the last fifteen that they didn’t win a division title, so they look to return to prior glory in 2007. It will be a challenge to take back the NL East crown, but if everything clicks with their young players, they have a shot at unseating the Mets.
Bodog.com lists Atlanta’s odds at +450 to win the East and +2000 to win the World Series.
The strength of the Braves has traditionally been their
starting pitching, but going into 2007 it could be the team’s biggest question mark. The rotation is headlined by long-time team ace John Smoltz, but after him it’s nothing but big question marks.
Tim Hudson, who was expected to become another great Braves starter, has faltered the last two years and could now just be considered an average MLB pitcher.
If he can regain his past form it would help the team tremendously. Young pitchers Chuck James and Kyle Davies look to fill two more spots in the rotation.
The Braves’ offense should be productive, as all their big boppers return (Andruw Jones, Chipper Jones, Brian McCann and Jeff Francoeur).
The team is looking to a platoon of lefty Scott Thorman and righty Craig Wilson to fill LaRoche’s spot, and they could put up similar numbers (30 HRs+) if things go well.
There should also be a platoon in left field, with Matt Diaz and Ryan Langerhans. Diaz hit over .300 last year, so the question is if Langerhans can hold up his end of the bargain. The big question mark in the lineup is at second base. Kelly Johnson has shown he can hit, but has never played the position.
