Kobe Bryant, Lebron James & Carmelo Anthony Spark Team USA win in FIBA Americas Championship

If you have basketball superstars Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony in the starting line-up of any team, I’d say you’d have pretty good chances of winning the game. Well, Team USA had them plus a few more superstars, and came out with an impressive opening game in the FIBA Americas Tournament. The United States strolled to an easy 112-69 victory over Venezuela, a sweet revenge for the Americans who were beaten by Venezuela in the last 2005 FIBA Americas tournament to take the bronze away from the USA.

The Americans began dominating in the second quarter, and by the time the fourth quarter kicked off, fans were just watching highlight-reel dunks and plays from the likes of Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard and Michael Redd.

“I think tonight we really wanted to be aggressive from the get,” Anthony said. “That was real important. I think tonight that was our main goal, to go out there and dominate. Not try to embarass, but dominate, and I think we did a good job at that.”

The highlight play of the match, which drew roars from fans at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas was a high-leaping save by Jason Kidd from the out-of-bounds, quickly tossing it to Anthony, who fired it to a cutting Lebron James. James then made an awesome behind-the-back pass to Kobe Bryant, who flushed it down in spectacular fashion.

Team USA look to dominate again as they go up against The Virgin Islands. With Kobe, Lebron and Melo in superstar form, I’d bet on it.
