Jimmie Johnson to win 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 at 5:56 pm

Jimmie Johnson is bound to win his second consecutive Nextel Cup title.

Jimmie JohnsonJohnson who won his third consecutive race Sunday, passing teammate Jeff Gordon and taking a 30-point lead in the Chase with two races remaining. The 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship has become unpredictable at this point with both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johsnon, Hendrick Motorsports teammate fully capable of taking the title home.

“It came down to a full-blown brawl,” Johnson said. “And I mean that in a good way. We both wanted that win at all costs. And I knew I could race Matt hard and he wouldn’t take me out. He would race me hard, but he wasn’t going to run into me.”

Coming to the next race, Johnson has all the advantages: a brilliant crew chief, a near-flawless pit crew and pristine equipment from the best organization in NASCAR.

One of his biggest rivals is his teammate Jeff Gordon, has an 81 career wins with a series best average running position of 9.2. Gordon has six wins and 20 top fives. Jeff Gordon is a force in NASCAR and will continue to be even after he decides to hang up his helmet as he is now part car owner of the No.48 team

While Clint Bowyer still within striking distance of this Championship, Bowyer will need to have both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson stumble down the stretch. Considering the 2007 record of accomplishment of both of those teams that seems unlikely. It is not over for Bowyer but statistically it looks like he is going to have to be happy with his incredible third place finish.

Kyle Busch has posted four top five finishes in the seven Chase races held so far in 2007. Unfortunately, Busch two other races were terrible. Kyle Busch finished 41st in Kansas and then 36th in Talladega the very next week. Busch then backed that up with a 20th place effort in Atlanta.

Kyle could finish as high as fourth or as low as eleventh in points.

It will be an exciting match between these relentless drivers all the way to the finish line.
