Hard Spun perked up for the 2007 Breeders Cup Title
The 2007 Breeders’ Cup World Championships kicks off tomorrow at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey.
One of the most celebrated crops of 3-year-olds and considered as the most versatile horse in the talent-laden squad for the Breeders’ Cup is Hard Spun. Hard Spun won his first four races by far - two at Delaware, the Pennsylvania Nursery at Philadelphia Park, and the Grade III LeComte Stakes by 61/2 lengths at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.
Hard Spun’s next race, the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Hard Spun was the 1-2 favorite but still finished fourth. Hard Spun followed it with a victory in the Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park, and then ran one of the best races of his career when he finished second to Street Sense in the Derby.
Saturday’s coveted race, the 2007 Breeder’s Cup, will be considered as a very competitive race. However, Hard Spun has a tremendous chance of pocketing the $5M Breeders Cup Classic purse with him having huge Breeders’ Cup odds and because even though it doesn’t have an exemplary speed, it is definitely loaded with talent.
This year’s 24th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships will test the mettle of the best Thoroughbreds in the country.
The much-anticipated $5M Breeders’ Cup Classic will feature legendary thoroughbreds like Lawyer Ron (Woodward winner), Street Sense (Kentucky Derby and Travers winner), Curlin (Preakness winner), Hard Spun (Derby runner-up and winner of the King’s Bishop and Kentucky Cup Classic), Any Given Saturday (Haskell winner), George Washington (Group I winner at Ascot), Tiago (Goodwood winner), Awesome Gem and Diamond Stripes (Meadowlands Cup winner).
Who’s your pick to become the Breeders’ Cup winner?
