Hamilton still a favorite to win F1 drivers championship even after Monaco Grand Prix fiasco
Lewis Hamilton is into 5/2 for the world drivers’ title following his latest second place in Monaco.
Reigning world champion Fernando Alonso led a processional McLaren one-two around Monte Carlo, leaving Hamilton to wait another day for his maiden Formula One victory.
With no way past on the tight, twisty street circuit, Hamilton was forced to settle for second place for the fourth successive race, finishing four seconds adrift.
And the pair are now tied on 38 points at the top of the championship standings, though Alonso’s two race victories this year means he holds sway.
Both have been cut by the bookies for the title - Sports Interaction going 11/10 Alonso, 5/2 Hamilton and then 7/2 and 11/2 respectively about Ferrari pair Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.
Massa is five points behind and Raikkonen 15 adrift. It’s already virtually any price about the rest.
Hamilton is 3/1 with BetUS to win his first Grand Prix of the season next time out at Montreal.
The Magic Sign go 5/1 that he has to wait until Indianapolis on June 17th, 7/1 that it is France on July 1st and 8/1 that he does it in front of his home crowd at Silverstone.
BetUS spokesman Robin Hutchison said: “It is surely just a matter of time before the bridesmaid catches the bouquet.”
Hutchison added: “Hamilton is now a £60,000 loser for us in the outright betting, but it’s looking a little brighter for us in the Constructors’ Championship as all the antepost money was for Ferrari.”
McLaren have been cut from 8/11 to 2/5 for the Constructors’ Championship by BetUS, with Ferrari out to 7/4 from evens.
