Early March Madness Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels over UCLA Bruins
It isn’t going to be easy. The North Carolina path from here to celebration inside Atlanta’s Georgia Dome may include one national championship- winning coach (Michigan State’s Tom Izzo) before the team bus ever leaves Winston-Salem, N.C.
In East Rutherford, N.J., the Tar Heels just might run into Rick Barnes, that old Dean Smith nemesis.
Yes, the East is loaded. Georgetown, Boston College, Washington State and Bob Knight lurk in the lower half of the bracket.
Oh, and maybe a rematch with Greg Oden and Ohio State in a national semifinal game.
Sometimes the Tar Heels play too selfishly. Sometimes they play faster than any amateur team on earth.
But a hungry bunch of NBA lottery picks coached by Roy Williams is enough reason to write “North Carolina” in that little rectangle at the center of your bracket sheet.
