Early Kentucky Derby contenders: Nobiz Like Shobiz is curent Kentucky Derby favorite
It seems it is never too early to start looking for the Kentucky Derby winner, and that lone three-year-old that has a chance of moving on and winning the Triple Crown. We have not seen a horse sweep the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes since Affirmed in 1978.
We can hope, although our Triple Crown fantasy has been spoiled far too many times in the last two decades. But early indications are this could be a very talented and deep group of three-year-olds.
Several promising three-year-olds were in action last weekend including the current Kentucky Derby early favorite Nobiz Like Shobiz.
There were 450 three-year-olds nominated last week to the Triple Crown. Here are five to keep an eye on that all competed last weekend:
Nobiz Like Shobiz (6/1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby at AllHorseRacing): Barclay Tagg is trying to win his second Kentucky Derby after taking the roses back in 2003 with Funny Cide. This colt has given every indication he is better than “The Gutsy Gelding.”
Ravel (22/1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby): This colt competed against winners for the first time last Saturday at Santa Anita in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes, and stamped himself one to watch with a one-length victory over Liquidity, who came into the Sham off a game second in the Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity in his previous outing. He earned a 102 BRIS speed fig in the win, while “Biz” earned a 103.
