Champions League Betting: Chelsea Beat Rosenborg 4-0, Advance To Final 16
English Premier League club Chelsea defeated Norwegian Premier League club Rosenborg 4-0 at the Lerkendal in Trondheim, Norway to earn a spot in the final round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.When Chelsea and Rosenborg faced each other the last time, Rosenborg was able to draw 1-1 with Chelsea at the Chelsea home pitch at Stamford Bridge, and it resulted in the dismissal of former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho and was replaced by Avram Grant.
This time around, Chelsea assured the win with Chelsea striker Didier Drogba giving an inspired performance with 2 goals. Drogba opened the scoring on the 8th minute when Chelsea’s Joe Cole had his initial shot parried by Rosenborg keeper Lars Hirschfeld only to fall for Drogba to pounce on the rebound. On the 20th minute, Chelsea’s Shaun Wright-Phillips broke free from his defenders and picked out Michael Essien, who fired a shot, but the ball fell for Didier Drogba, who slotted it into the top corner for his 2nd goal of the match and his 4th Champions League goal this season.
On the 40th minute, Chelsea’s Alex was able to score from a low free-kick from 30 meters out that skimmed in off the boot of Rosenborg defender Mikael Dorsin to make the score a comfortable 3-0.
Rosenborg couldn’t find a goal, and were losing some steam in the second half. Eventually, Chelsea’s 73rd minute goal from Joe Cole capped Chelsea’s lead to make the final scoreline stand at 4-0. Chelsea’s win improves their point standing to 11 points to lead Group B of the UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile, Rosenborg are still in second spot with 7 points. German Bundesliga club Schalke have 5 points while Spanish La Liga club Valencia have 4 points. The final qualification slot for Group B rests on the result of the final matchday. Valencia hope to overcome Chelsea at Stamford Bridge while Rosenborg hope to win over Schalke in order to assure the last qualification spot of Group B.
