Carl Nafzger still unsure if Street Sense will run at Belmont
To racing fans itching to know if Kentucky Derby champ Street Sense and Preakness Stakes winner Curlin will face off at the June 9 Belmont Stakes: Chill out!
Street Sense trainer Carl Nafzger said a decision on the June 9 Belmont Stakes will probably be made by the middle of next week while Curlin will surely run at Belmont Park.
This Saturday afternoon with the playing of “New York, New York,” and the parade to the post, the third jewel in the Triple Crown of Racing, the Belmont Stakes, will be run.
As witnessed last week at Pimlico, the drought of now 29 years since Affirmed (1978) was not broken as Street Sense came up short in the Preakness, albeit not by the hairs of the chinny-chin-chin but rather those of the nostrils of eventual winner Curlin.
The field for the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes continues to remain in flux, as the field of 10-12 three-year-olds is taking shape two weeks before the 1 1/2 mile race.
A week until the Belmont Stakes the probables include Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun, Tiago, Slew’s Tizzy, Sightseeing, Rags to Riches, Great Hunter, Imawildandcrazyguy, Circular Quay and Chelokee.
How memorable is Belmont Park? Make some of your own history and bet on the $300,000 Ohio Derby on June 2. Make the day one to remember.
