Pac-Man versus The Baby Faced Assassin.

It happened before in 2003, when Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera aka “The Baby-Faced Assassin” slugged it out at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. Manny Pacquiao eventually got the better of Marco Barrera, and Barrera’s corner had to throw in the towel just before the start of the 11th round as Barrera was just too beat up to continue.
Four years later, and Manny Pacquiao looks to knock out Marco Antonio Barrera once again when the two rematch for a scheduled 12-rounder on October 6 at The Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“This fight is what the fans have been asking for and I’m excited that we will be able to deliver this bout between these two all-time great champions,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, who is promoting for the side of Barrera.Pacquiao and Barrera Fight

“Pacquiao and I have one thing in common and that is this is the fight we have most wanted. But Pacquiao should have been more careful for what he wished for because he is going to be in the fight of his life. The battle is on and I am going to leave the ring as boxing’s number 1 pound-for-pound fighter,” Barrera said.

Surely, those are big words, but then Pacquiao is on a winning streak that includes a lot of KOs and TKOs. Pacquiao gave Erik Morales a 3rd round KO to lead 2-1 in their 3 matches last November 2006. More recently, Pacquiao also knocked out  Jorge Solis in the 8th round, improving Pacquiao’s record to 44-3-2 with 35 KOs.
“Fighting Barrera is a career highlight for me. He has already beaten great world champions like Erik Morales, Naseem Hamed and Johnny Tapia and I know I am going to have to train harder than I ever have before to beat him,” Pacquiao said.

Meanwhile, Barrera’s last match was a heartbreaking loss to fellow mexican Juan Manuel Marquez. In a unanimous decision that favored Marquez,  who took over the WBC Super Featherweight title from Marco Barrera.
Boxing critics are giving Pacquiao the advantage over Marco Antonio Barrera, but Pacquiao is not taking this fight lightly despite the advantage given to him.
“I’m training for a hard fight against someone I respect, someone who’s out for revenge. Barrera has hit me harder than any Mexican fighter. I don’t care what the odds are. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a 50-50 fight,” said Pacquiao.

Barrera could be on his last hurrah, having gone through 69 fights with 63 wins, 5 losses and 1 no-contest, with 42 wins by KO.  If this is indeed going to be one of Marco Barrera’s last fight, then you can be sure he is going to go out fighting.
