Buffalo Sabres are favorites in Stanley Cup playoffs

Oddsmakers say Daniel Briere and the Buffalo Sabres are the team to beat as the NHL playoffs get underway.

Buffalo was knocking on the upper echelon’s door a season ago when its surprise Stanley Cup run fell one win short, losing to eventual champs Carolina HurricanesCarolina in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Bringing back most of the pieces from 2005-06, big things were expected of the Sabres heading into this season.

They’ve yet to disappoint.

With 53 wins, 113 points, the President’s Trophy and home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, the Sabres have confirmed most predictions that they are the team to beat this postseason.

The Bodog Sportsbook responded by posting the Islanders as the biggest long-shot to win an opening-round series. New York currently sits at +400 to knock off the Sabres (-600), a fairly substantial number when you consider the next biggest upset would be eighth-seeded Calgary (+230) over Detroit (-270) in the West.

According to the oddsmakers, Buffalo should breeze through the opening round and be well-rested for the conference semifinals.
