Bayern Munich: Red Hot & Ready to Reclaim Bundesliga Crown

footballhooligan.jpgVfB Stuttgart were crowned Bundesliga Champions of the 2006-07 season after topping the league with 70 points. Bundesliga football club Shalke 04 came in second with 68. In that same season, Bayern Munich was 4th overall with a total of 60 points. Football critics say that Bayern Munich had a very lackluster performance considering their decade-long domination of the league which saw them crowned as Bundesliga champs at least 6 times since the 1998-99 season. Bayern Munich’s last championship was two seasons ago during the 2005-06 campaign.

This 2007-08 season, Bayern Munich are coming in with a lot of changes. First of all, they have a new kit design, which makes their new jerseys look really cool. Next off, they spent around $94 Million dollars in making some major signings. Among the more notable ones include bagging German international Miroslav Klose from Werder Bremen; Luca Toni from AC Fiorentina; Franck Ribery from French Division 1 team Olympique Marseilles; and Brazilian Ze Roberto rejoins from Santos FC.

On their opening match against Hansa Rostock in their home pitch Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich gave the 69,000+ fans a lot to cheer about with a 3-0 thrashing of their visitors. Miroslav Klose scored 2 goals and Luca Toni tapped in one, giving proof at the well-timed decisions of Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to make these worthwhile signings.
“There was a completely new atmosphere here today. There’s the feeling of a new era at the club. I think this team has a glorious future ahead of it,” chairman Rummenigge declared following their dynamite opening day victory over Hansa Rostock.

klose and toni.jpgThe Toni and Klose tandem proved that they can make some real threat to any opponent’s goal with the great quality of unselfish passing and timed offensive rushes. Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld was all praises for his newfound dynamic duo.

“They looked for each other, and they found each other. It was a dream start.”
Luca Toni and Miroslave Klose may be new signings, but they’ve found an instant chemistry that can result in a wonderful Bundesliga championship run for The Reds. Adding to their support will be Bayern captain and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Ze Roberto and Mark van Bommel have an energetic pace in midfield; and Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery are deadly on the Bayern Munich flanks. The defensive wall of Lucio, Philipp Lahm, Marcell Jansen and Martin Demichelis will be hard to crack. The Bayern side might even gain more strength when Lukas Podolski, Jan Schlaudraff, Willy Sagnol, Valerien Ismael and Hamit Allintop are made to dress.

While Bayern’s demolition of Hansa Rostock on opening day might be a sign of things to come. The true test remains when they start competing with stronger teams like Werder Bremen and current Bundesliga Champions VfB Stuttgart. Of course, right now I like the odds on another Bayern Munich domination of the Bundesliga. I’d bet on it just as sure as Miroslav Klose can do a somersault.

[…] Despite the support of the capacity 42,000 plus fans in the Weserstadion, Werder Bremen couldn’t do much to stop the Bayern Munich juggernaut from continuing its winning streak. Injuries plague Werder Bremen, and that may be a valid excuse for their dismal performance last Saturday, but give credit to Bayern Munich who are in top form after they’ve done a bit of reshuffling in their roster.
