AC Milan wins UEFA Champions League Final
Filippo Inzaghi scored twice and AC Milan held off a late Liverpool charge to capture the 2007 UEFA Champions League final.
Milan went in front on the stroke of half-time as Andrea Pirlo hit a free-kick, only to have it deflect off Inzaghi’s back. The shot wrong-footed Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina and went into the net.
To be fair, the goal was a bit of terrible luck for Liverpool, who were much the better side for all of the first half.
Inzaghi struck again in the 82nd minute as Brazilian superstar Kaka sent a perfectly-timed pass through to the cagey Italian striker.
Inzaghi rounded Reina and slid the ball into the net for what proved to be the winning tally.
Liverpool’s Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt got one goal back for the Reds in the 89th minute, heading home a Daniel Agger flick-on. The goal gave Liverpool hope in the later stages, as many in attendance thought they were about to stage another dramatic comeback similar to the one of 2005.
