San Antonio Spurs battles Portland Trail Blazers on NBA tip-off

The San Antonio Spurs will begin their 2007-2008 NBA Season with bang as they host the Portland Trail Blazers on opening night at.
Led by reigning Finals MVP Guard Tony Parker, the San Antonio Spurs will be pumped up as they try to gun for four championships in sex years and fifth in the last 10 years.
Parker, who averaged 24.5 points and shooting impeccably 56.8 percent in last year’s Finals, he said that he is in better shape after an off season of weight training following his highly publicized marriage to Desperate Housewive’s actress Eva Longoria.
“It helps having the same guys coming back this year,” said Tim Duncan, “All in all, what it comes down to is we’ve got the guys that have been through it, that have been through the wars and know what it takes and what it’s about. So that gives us an advantage.”
Together with their veterans with the like of Manu Ginobili, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, Brent Barry and Jacque Vaughn, making them a heavy favorite to win.
While the Spurs are making a bid for back-to-back titles, the Portland Trail Blazers made the necessary changes. Blazers drafted stalwart Greg Oden as the first over all pick of the 2008 Draft then traded Zach Randolph in exchange for forward Channing Frye. Also, they waived the services of former All Star guard Steve Francis.
New look Houston Rockets to face disgruntled Kobe and LA Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers drama between superstar guard Kobe Bryant and team owner Jerry Buss is not yet over. Luckily for the fans of the Lakers, they still have Kobe on its roster to play their 2007-2008 NBA season opener against the revamped team of Houston Rockets at Staples Center.
Kobe Bryant went public with a trade request during a radio interview in May, and then rescinded his appeal in a different radio interview later that day. The commotion died down slightly over the summer until Lakers owner Jerry Buss acknowledged on Oct. 11 that he “would certainly listen” to trade offers for Bryant.
“I’m still a Laker. I’m here. I’m ready to play,” Kobe said. “My focus is here with this ballclub. Wherever I play, I’ll be ready. I’m focusing on this team. Dr. Buss said business is business. I understand that.”
Kobe Bryant will still the leader of the team together with Derek Fisher, who came back to add some firepower, which the Lakers sorely miss when Shaquille O’Neal was traded back in 2003. Lakers frontcourt will be tested with Andrew Bynum manning the middle with the help of foul prone Ronnie Turiaf and Chris Mihm. LA will miss Lamar Odom, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury.
Houston Rockets, who were eliminated by Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs made the most significant off-season move by signing offense-oriented Rick Adelman. The duo of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, who were one of the highest-scoring pairs of teammates in the league combining for almost 50 ppg and 14.5rpg will have an easier job with the new recruits of Mike James Steve Francis, Spanish Center Luis Scola and veteran mainstays Shane Battier, Bonzi Wells and Rafer Alston.
Golden State Warriors to avenge their loss with Utah Jazz

The Golden State Warriors saw their dreams crashing to the hands of the Utah Jazz. These teams will meet Tuesday night as they open the 2007-2008 NBA Season at Oracle Arena.
The Golden State Warriors made an improbable run by beating Dallas Mavericks, the team with the best record in the NBA, in six games becoming the first No. 8 seed to win a first-round NBA playoff series in the best-of-seven format.
Baron Davis, the strong and powerful guard, teamed up with the lightning quick Monta Ellis, who both excelled under coach Don Nelson’s up-tempo offense seems gotten the right chemistry. However, they traded high-flyer Jason Richardson to the Charlotte Bobcats for rookie Brandan Wright. Guard Stephen Jackson, averaged 16.8 points and 4.6 assists in 38 games last season will miss his first seven games as a penalty for reportedly firing a gun at an Indianapolis strip club. 
The number 3 spot of the Warriors was key to their remarkable run together with forward Al Harrington, who averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds last season with new additions of sweet shooting Marcon Belinelli and Troy Hudson, with frontcourt back up Austin Croshere, Brandon Wright and Kosta Perovic the Warriors know what’s in store for them heading to the new campaign.

“Everyone’s expecting we’ll get better, not worse,” Don Nelson said. “And if that happens, it kind of then depends what other teams do. There are a lot of good teams that didn’t make it last year, and we were one of the fortunate ones.”

Colorado Rockies Cinderella-Like Story Ended Earlier Than Expected

Colorado Rockies magical season ended on a sad note losing 4-3 to the Boston Red Sox and a MLB World Series sweep at Coors Field Sunday night.
The Colorado Rockies could not hold off the blistering pace set by the Boston Red Sox from the start, The Rockies went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and 1-for-12 with runners on base as the Red Sox hindered the Rockies’ offense throughout the series. The Rockies only hit .226 with 10 runs in all four games.
As we all know the magnificent run they made to reach the MLB baseball World Series, the Rockies won 14 of their last 15 regular-season games, they won seven straight postseason games to make it 21 of 22. But Sunday night, it was all history.
After a month of playing near-flawless baseball — getting all the breaks to overcome the Padres for the National League Wild Card before sweeping the Phillies and the Diamondbacks in the National League playoffs — the Rockies wound up on the other end of the good baseball and good fortune.

Beckham, Galaxy Succumb to Chicago Fire, Out Of MLS Playoffs

David Beckham has just finished his first season with the Los Angeles Galaxy in a setback. His team failed to reach the play-offs for the second season in a row losing 1-0 to the Chicago Fire over the weekend in front of a packed crowd of around 21,000 at Toyota Park Stadium.
That leaves the international superstar with playing only five games and no goals under his belt.
Evidently, things did not go to the former Real Madrid star, who has been struggling with an ankle injury. David Beckham will have to wait another six months before the new season of Major League Soccer begins in April.
So the big question is what went wrong to the Los Angeles Galaxy?
The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder admitted that his arrival from Real Madrid back in July became a distraction from his teammates. “To go through what the players went through when I arrived, and before I arrived, was difficult to adjust, but they showed character in the last six, seven games. No one expected us to be in this position today like we were, so it shows that we have character.” David Beckham said.
