Texas Bowl odds: Rutgers vs Kansas State
For the first time in school history, Rutgers (10-2, 5-2 BIG EAST) will appear in a bowl game for the second-consecutive season as the Scarlet Knights officially accepted a bid to the inaugural Texas Bowl vs. Kansas State of the Big XII Conference.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 28 from Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Texas Bowl will be televised by the NFL Network.
The game vs. Kansas State (7-5, 4-4 BIG XII) marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Rutgers has played just three games in 137 seasons of football vs. Big XII competition.
Rutgers ranks in the top 25 in 11 different NCAA statistical categories, including second nationally in sacks allowed (0.7 spg), seventh in total defense (259.7 ypg) and ninth in scoring defense (14.7 ppg).
Rutgers will look for its first win in a bowl game Dec. 28 in the Texas Bowl vs. Kansas State. The Scarlet Knights are 0-2 in their previous two bowl games, losing 34-18 to Arizona State in the 1978 Garden State Bowl and dropping a 45-40 contest to the Sun Devils in the 2005 Insight Bowl.
Rutgers will face Kansas State for the first time in school history in the Texas Bowl. The Scarlet Knights will be making just their second appearance in the state of Texas. The Scarlet Knights lost 48-14 to Texas in Austin on Sept. 6, 1997.
Rutgers is 0-3 all-time vs. schools from the Big XII (0-2 Texas, 0-1 Nebraska).
