Shaq, Wade back to defend their NBA title

The NBA season kicks off this week, and it looks as though the Spurs, Mavs, Heat and Pistons will be the ones to beat. Or can the baby Bulls or Le Bron’s Cavs take the next step?

Let’s face it, Miami’s O’Neal is on the downside of his career, and Houston’s Yao Ming plays too soft.

In contrast, Miami guard Dwyane Wade proved that a guard can completely control a game and lead his team to a NBA title.

Can Shaq and Wade lead the Heat to the Finals?Point guards like Nash, the reigning two-time MVP, and Chris Paul, who won the Rookie of the Year award last season with the Hornets, are more important to their teams than the post players.

And please don’t forget Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, the best pure scorer in the NBA. Yes, Bryant has many detractors, but he is always worth watching whether you love him or hate him.

This trend is good for the game.

Post-up basketball is downright boring. It is far more entertaining to watch a well-coordinated fast break that leads to an easy basket without much dribbling. Whether it’s a pitcher’s fastball, a quick running back or auto racing — speed rules sports.

So back come the same old Miai Heat, who are convinced they’re still good enough to get by LeBron and Big Ben in the East, and then the Mavericks, Spurs, Suns or whomever else survives in the West.

Sure, the Heat have flaws. But they’re also the only team with Dwyane Wade, a bona fide superstar who’s already proven he’s capable of hiding or overcoming his team’s shortcomings all by himself.

The brand new NBA season will begin this week. You just might have to wager on the Miami Heat leading wire-to-wire.

NBA Betting Tips: The Suns haven’t proven stingy enough on that end of the court. Until they do, don’t wager big bucks on an NBA crown.
