Pennsylvania, Washington governor wager on Super Bowl
In the annual gamesmanship that goes on between Super Bowl states, the governors of Pennsylvania and Washington have placed a wager on the outcome of the NFL Championship.
In a press release, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said today he is repeating the wager he made last week with Colorado and is putting up one box of Pittsburgh’s Original Hot Dog Shop hot dogs and a case of Heinz condiments, including ketchup, mustard and relish. However, because it’s the Super Bowl, Mr. Rendell is adding Primante Brothers Sandwiches and
Eat n’ Park Gold and Black Smiley cookies. All of the food would be donated to a Seattle homeless shelter in the event of a Seahawks victory.
Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire has countered with a Washington classic: a bushel of their finest apples, plus Ivar’s Clam Chowder and plenty of “Applets and Cotlets.” The food also will be donated to a Pittsburgh homeless shelter if the Steelers win.
Besides the food, the “winning” Governor will get bragging rights at the upcoming National Governors Association. “As always, I am looking forward to a Steelers victory translating into a generous donation to a Pittsburgh homeless shelter …,” Mr. Rendell said in the release.
Each governor also has agreed to wave their opponents flags in the executive offices if the other team wins.
