Padres, Dodgers out clinch MLB playoff spots tonight
Two teams from the National League West can clinch playoff berths tonight. That would be the San Diego Padres (86-74) and Los Angeles Dodgers (86-74).
The Padres and Dodgers are tied for athe lead in the NL West. The Padres can wrap up at least a wild card spot with a win against Arizona or a loss by the Philadelphia Phillies (83-77), who play the Marlins in Florida.

The Padres are hoping to get a vintage late-season David Wells performance out of their esteemed southpaw on Saturday at Chase Field when he faces Arizona right-hander Juan Cruz.
Los Angeles can also clinch at least a wild card berth with a win on Saturday coupled with a loss by Philadelphia.
Greg Maddux is coming back on three days’ rest for this game against the Giants, having pitched adequately Tuesday night in Denver. He’s 25-14 with a 2.97 ERA lifetime against San Francisco. Against the Rockies, he allowed three runs in six innings, which isn’t bad work at Coors Field.
