Discreet Cat ready to run Cigar Mile at Aqueduct
Discreet Cat is set to run the Cigar Mile this Saturday at Aqueduct and has warmed up by breezing five furlongs in 59 seconds during his training at Belmont this past Sunday.
The undefeated Discreet Cat famously
backed out of the Breeders’ Cup Classic and set his sights on the Cigar Mile which is the last Grade 1 stakes race of the year.
One possible explanation of Discreet Cat’s withdrawal from the Classic could be that his owner Sheikh Maktoum of Dubai thought there was no chance of him beating his other star horse Bernardini and decided to save him for the Cigar Mile.
We all know now that Bernardini came to second to Invasor who strangely enough has only lost once in his career…to Discreet Cat.
Discreet Cat won’t be facing the same competition in the Cigar Mile as he would have in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and I would be willing to bet he will keep his unbeaten streak alive.
