While visions of Vince Young’s surreal performance in the Rose Bowl still dance in our heads, we as college football fans must move forward. Now, as at the start of each season, the focus will turn to a new crop of potential superstars, and questions arise whether or not they have what it takes to lead their respective teams to the desert of Glendale, Ariz.

• Can Ohio State make a run with its loaded offense but a defense that returns just two starters?
• Can Notre Dame shake off its embarrassing Fiesta Bowl loss?
• How will Penn State, Georgia, Alabama and others deal with new quarterbacks?
The answers to all these questions - and more - are who knows?
And that unpredictability makes college football the most exciting sport around.
The Buckeyes are the preseason No. 1 in both polls, as well as in Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine. Ohio State is dangerous, but by no means unbeatable.
The past two years, it was obvious to everyone that USC would end up in the national-championship game. But this season, no school has come forward with a squad that appears to be flawless.
So many exciting games and story lines are lurking over the next four and a half months that it’s very hard to sit still.
